What CLF Bulbs To Get?

Hello everyone,

Mr. Anonymous here...

I wanted to ask what CLF lights to get while im at home depot getting the clamp stands for the lights?

I know the higher wattage ones are back in the lawn and garden section i think but i dont know what to get, Ive seen people talking on here about different bulbs for vegging and flowering.

Im going to run 3 to 4 clamp ons for 2 or so plants in my closet.

My 15 watt 900 lumens CLF will only do so much for my seedling.

Thanks,

The home depot in my area dosn't carry quite the right ones, you should be looking for ones with a 6500k color spectrum for vegging, they are generally int he blue package labeled cool daylight or something similar.
Stay away from the ones in the red package and green package.
The ones in home depot i believe are 5000k, they will work but they aren't the very best.
The higher wattage the better, more light = bigger plants.

Take a good look all over the packaging it should say somewhere what color spectrum it is.

Good luck!

Alright so im looking for the blue packaging ones / "cool daylight" for vegging. And the higher the wattage the better.

Now what should i get for the flowering stage when it comes to that?

I bought some lights from wal mart last night they looked like the other CFL's i saw there 3x26 watt GE but i cant see anything that says cooling. the package is green and yellow so the blue or red is not applicable. It says general light does that mean i bought the wrong kind and need to go and get the cooling they all looked the same.

yep, but as for the ones in the green and yellow package, I'm almost 100% those are not in the 6500k color spec, Ive looked through their selection and the ones that are right on 6500k came in a kinda sky blue package.
Is there a GE part number on those bulbs you just bought?

Heh those say 6500k in big bold letters on the left hand side of the package, those are the ones you want for vegging.

I was actually looking for the part number on the bulbs that insideurmind had just bought.
Those pics will help him more than my description would anyway.
Thanks for helping us out.

Thanks much UEDan i went and bought 2 packs of the bulbs today.

Are 3 of those lights on ONE plant too much?

Also what "k" am i looking for when i want to flower these plants?

It was funny, Me pushing the cart that had the 4 bulbs and the 4 clamp light things... This one chick had to be 17 or 18 looked at what i had in the cart, looked at me and then kinda laughed... I just smiled back and gave a wink.

I was going to go to the gardening section and get a few things but then for sure id be getting alot of looks.

Thanks again.

ok so i have been frowing my babies for 2-3 months outside i moved them in and bought some lights...i went looking for the ones in the blue pack and noticed some other brandname in the same color package the green and yellow said full spectrum on them...what does that mean? also i went to a couple places and they were sold out of the wattage i wanted i was was wondering how much of a difference it will make with the lights i have....i am only going to let them veg for maybe another week is it worth buying the other bulbs in the blue pack or just wait and buy the ones in the red pack when im flowering?

hey crompy if you wanna know what the 125 watt equivalent is:

42w/150w = x/125w

x = 35watts :mrgreen:

givin us a hard time haha

Shanti - What's up with the algebra man? lol. Actually, Envirolites are the real deal; in other words, they're rated in actual wattage - not equivalent incandescent wattage. 125w Envirolite is ,uhh... 125w. So, Crompy, you're obviously not in the US, right? You wouldn't believe what a pain in the ass it is to get quality, high powered cfl's here. Took me forever to find my 250 watt 65k cfl at a halfway decent price. Any of you guys have a good supplier to recommend for a fellow cfl lover? If you can't buy online, where there are couple decent sites with high powered spirals and u-tubes in 65k and 27k (overpriced, of course... PLUS shipping), we're stuck with freaking walmart. And yeah, you guys are right on: the green and yellow packages are almost always 27k/warm white. As to why GE decided NOT to label their specific spectrum, who knows. Pretty stupid, huh? The only ones that are actually labeled are the 65k/daylight bulbs for vegging. And they're available with the overwhelming power of 26 watts. WTF? Stay away from any other spectrum bulbs; they're just not worth it. >>>>> iminsideurmind: bro, if you're almost to the end of your veg cycle, don't spend more money on 65k's. If you've got some 27k's sitting around, use them!! Lumens are lumens man. Your plants will decide which light to use. Blue lights put out red spec, and vice versa: just not in the same intensity as the spectrum for which they're named. If you've got the $ for 27k bulbs, and you're waiting for flowering... DON'T! Get 'em now, and use them! To go back to Shanti's algebraic logic, in reality, most grower's - especially cfl'ers - have a limited budget. You've got X amount of money to spend on lights. In a perfect world, you could spend X on 65k's, AND X on 27k's. Since we're stuck with the real world, most growers will simply use as many lumens as possible, with the best ratio per cycle as they can afford at the time. Basically, use what you've got! If you have 8 27k's and 8 65k's - assuming you've got the space and electrical requirements - use them all! I'm nearing the end of my veg. cycle, and definitely don't have much cash left. I'd LOVE to add more 65k's to really push the last week or two of veg, but as most growers would agree, 12/12 is much more important in the end. That's the whole POINT, right?! So, I'm adding 27k's in preperation for flowering. They still put off some useable light for vegging, and more importantly, they'll be the better lights pretty soon. Anyway, good luck guys, good growin to all! Sorry about the long post, but as I'm lacking in BUD, I've had to substiture BUDweiser. SO sad. PEACE!:peace:
