Aaaaarrrrrgggggggggg so flipping frustrated..
I noticed a few weeks ago that I have fungus gnats... immediately ran to local feed and garden and bought mosquito bit and did as directed, also put a cup of apple cider vinegar (and a drop of Dawn) , hung fly paper, of course waited till the soil was an inch deep for dryness.
I am a new grower... I really could use some help...
I have NOT noticed any damage to my plants..and about 2 weeks in budding. I am using fox farm organic soil with bat guano, bone meal added to soil as directed. And have added nutrients when budding started. Lights(16/ 8), fan ,CO2, heater(80°) are on a timer.
Am I stressing for nothing?

You can sprinkle this on top of the soil. Cheap and effective. Sucks them dry like me in this 20% rh going on this past week :bigjoint:
Gaia Green Diatomaceous Earth 750gr https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07L439PNJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_XFG42BCN6RSN8H7SGHXQ

bmc will work wonders its just bti if you keep using it how you should you will get rid of them. Also having good airflow is essential because it helps with disrupting the cycle of the gnats, just drying out the top inch or two helps a ton. If u have to use the mosquito bits the best way to use them IMO is to put the bits in cheesecloth and have it sit in the water you wanna use for a day.

Ive had lots of problems with Gnats no matter what I try they keep coming back to the point of trying mechanical means which appear to be working better than anything.
Wrap the pot in a paint strainer bag and nip it around the stem, as gnats hatch and you see them in the bag just spray with Isoproyl Alcohol which kills them on contact and doesn't effect the plant at all, pretty soon you have no gnats inside the bag and any outside gnats cannot get in, works for me.

I’ve dealt with these multiple times. Very stressful! But if you hit them on all fronts your good. I use a shit ton of fly strips to catch flyers. Diatomaceous earth to kill emerging youngsters or landing adults and I put mosquito bits on top of my soil and add it into water to kill off any larvae. I also work the diatomaceous earth into the top two inches of soil pretty heavy. Every once in a while I’ll see one but he’ll get got as there is no safe haven in my area lol. Even after there gone you have to be proactive in keeping them away. After I got rid of them I put up new fly strips to detect new adults or invaders and I keep up on the diatomaceous earth and mosquito bits to keep anything from starting

Diatomaceous powder is useless if it gets wet, no point mixing it with medium or putting on top if you top water, it only works if its dry.

I agree your top layer does get useless if it gets wet but the really fine stuff that you mix into the soil will continue to dry out with the soil I use it all the time

It might be the other things you are doing, I tried all the methods in the thread and a few more, and the bloody things just keep appearing, so Im on my last stand and thinking keep them out of the root ball and they are no issue, Im in a rural area and there are gnats everywhere outside they can find a way into the room within 2 weeks of starting a new grow, from seeing a couple flying around before you know it you have a hatch out. Im liking the fine mesh bag over the pot it seems to stop them in their tracks.

I had to dump all my soil and retreat it before I started attacking them in my grow room I’d you don’t defeat them in rheee environment they never go away completely it’s a very frustrating thing but they will subside

I'd get better lighting for one. It's hard for me to look at the blurple. For gnats there's a lot of methods. But this stuff is supposed to work awesome.

I personally use the product @PadawanWarrior linked. It works great. It is the best product I have found for dealing with fungus gnats.

This is what i use also.Works for killin whats in the substrate (larvae) and use sticky traps for your flyers.

They are more of a nuisance to you than they are your plants.

Gnats are a sign of improper watering, the soil is staying damp. Aerate the top layer of soil and stop watering too frequently, let the soil dry.
