I sometimes use 12/12 with autos. They still start flowering a couple of weeks earlier that way than a photo 12/12 from seed. This round I took a Sour Stomper plant 20 days before the first photo was ripe enough to harvest. Started at the same time. I personally don't have to justify growing autos, after 15 years with them I don't need to reconsider anything lol.
Hey man what works for you works for you. I just don't get it... You're reducing your yield and quality on the autoflower significantly by doing that.

The potential of finding something killer and not being able to clone it to me kind of defeats the purpose of starting seeds to begin with. How's an autoflower bean worth as much as a photoperiod bean when it doesn't have anywhere near the potential and is limited in so many ways? for the "experience"?

I don't play the lottery, hit the jackpot, and give it back so I can play again...

Autoflowers have come a long way in the last decade. They still lie to sell 'em to noobs though telling them they are easier to grow than photoperiods when in nearly every way, save for needing a $9 timer to control your light schedule, and a light leak proof grow area, they are harder and by that I mean less forgiving.

Not so sure why you think autoflowers yield poorly as well?

I never said they did. I said it will yield less grown in 12/12 compared to 18/6 or 24/0.

I've grown auto's to completion in 18/6 and also switched autos to 12/12 from an 18/6 schedule because my photo's needed to be flipped. Those auto's never truly finished, they were the most pathetic buds I've ever grown to date. Granted this was nearly a decade ago and auto's have improved significantly. I just still can't get over the costs of growing them. The 18/6 auto's finished and looked OK but the bud quality was sub par. My female seeds Pure AK, that I was growing at the same time, outperformed the auto's in absolutely every single way. The seeds were cheaper for the photo's.

I bought auto's because this ridiculous seed industry had me semi convinced auto's were easier and that photo's weren't for the novice. LOL.

Yeah basing your opinion of autos grown over a decade ago probably isn't the best reference.

If someone handed you two buds blind, one a properly grown auto and one a photo you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Can confirm this. Have a few mates that are perpetually spruking the "auto's are straight trash, I won't smoke them if you paid me" yet they have been talking my shit up for two years straight. They don't know I only grow auto's. I just told them it was GG, GDP, GSC and OG kush. I just emit the autoflower at the end and they are happy as high heaven.

I'll grow a photo next, call it an auto and they will tell me it's trash. People are easily influenced.

As I said, early transplanting and topping are required for my training method.

i think people are confused by the timing of the topping for your manifold. usually you'd wait until the 5th or 6th node appears and then top at just above 3rd node. this lets your plant develop some sort of root structure and such. i feel you've confused the need to transplant and top.
no offence, but i did laugh when the first pic loaded.
i transplanted at 3 weeks and topped after a month...

This. I've always found the best bet is to let it grow to the 5th or 6th, and top it down to the third. That way the extra leaves developed would have fueled the satellite growth to an acceptable level.

Did you know that if you take a single stem plant around the 5th node and bend it over and repeatedly tie down the branches that try to grow taller keeping the canopy even, it will grow like that in less time and recovery? No topping, all LST. It's the opposite of what you're doing.

yep, does the same job of redistributing hormones and breaking dominance for sure.

No one wants to hear the benefits of LST only. They read about mainlining like it's the second coming of Jesus and nothing will deter them.

That has nothing to do with what I'm doing. The Idea behind this style is flow, having the two ends of flux higher you're creating two dominant heads that call for energy etc. The other limbs draw the energy off freely as it journeys along the flux. So hopefully it creates a hunger loop.

I like to use this method of training, and there's nothing wrong with it. In fact the end result I get once I flip to flowering is superior to any training method I've used before. These pics are the same exact method.

Exactly which BS comments?

As far as autos, that's not even remotely close to true, but I think we went over this before. Still it's probably best to stop posting incorrect information.
Incorrect? I live in northern Alberta around 56°N so mainly want autos for outdoor growing but grow some indoors for breeding purposes. To keep them small I leave them in smaller pots to restrict their size. I wasn't particularly pointing you out as a BSer.

These are sitting way past their best by date because they are ripening feminized seeds. All 3 planted at the same time with one being sprayed with STS. Didn't seem to want to give me any male flowers but finally did when they were all well into flowering. I collected some of the 'nanners and used some of the pollen to dust some lower buds on the other two on March 13. Seeds are beginning to bust out of their calyxes but after picking a couple out last night the 2nd one was still half pale so I'm leaving them for a while yet. The clones are from moms just a few days into 12/12 in my main grow room and unrelated.

Cloning100422a.JPG

These ones were grown outside last summer in the ground and got easily 10X bigger with lots of soil under them. Same batch of seeds for both. Mazarilla fem autos by Urban Legends. A cross of Mazar auto and GG#4 auto. The breeder wants some F2s when I make them so I'll be planting some of the seeds I make from his originals this year and dusting some lower buds with the pollen I got from that little girl.

I had trimmed off the large fan leaves earlier in the day I took this pic in prep for harvesting the next day. Only got 3' tall but were in a spot with shade in the morning and evening. This year I'll be planting further out in my yard where they should get full sun from dawn to dusk which means up to 18 hours of direct sunlight each day compared to maybe 12. Regular plants take until mid-Oct to finish and we're under a foot of snow by then so only autos will work for me outside. 10th of Sept works for me. That middle plant is an unrelated CBD auto.

ReadyToCropMazarilla.JPG

Room for roots does make a big difference for autos. We had two of those nasty heat domes last summer and these girls loved it. With the rain we had all thru most of June they didn't get planted until almost the end and I never figured those tiny plants would do as good as they did. 6oz off each and I'm expecting better this year. I bought 8 - 107L bales of ProMix HP to mix with various things in the raised bed where I'll grow this summer.

Jumping on someone because their style doesn't fit others ideas of how to do something is really ignorant. All sorts of different methods get the job done. I've tried all sorts of things since growing my first buds in '78.

Yes incorrect, like the statement you made below.

Outside in the ground they do the best.
They do best when correctly cared for. Indoors/Outdoors it doesn't matter. Although you can control the environment indoors and the lack of bugs would make indoor superior.

I'm not "jumping on you" for your style. The indoor picture of your "autos" are well enough to explain why you are wrong. They look absolutely abysmal. If you grew them correctly indoors they wouldn't look like that nor would they be so small. They look absolutely torched.

Those two have got to be the chunkiest autos I've seen outdoors. Every auto I've grown outdoors ended up pulling around 50-70g which is terrible imo. The dirt was decent in the yard as I managed some pretty massive photos that year with two and a half months veg.

I nearly tripled my best outdoor auto yield with my first indoor auto.

What part of leaving them past their 'best by' date don't you understand? They were almost ready to be cropped when they got pollinated so of course they look like crap now. They are small because I wanted them to stay small and just make some seeds with them so left them in 2L pots. This summer I'll be planting two of the original seeds from the breeder and two I've made to see if they perform the same or did creating seeds on the restricted size plants affect the outcome when allowed to spread their roots.

Once I find a decent all CBD auto I'll grow the bulk of my bud outdoors and reduce my indoor growing to my breeding program alone. 90% of it gets made into oil for edible and topical meds so I'll save a shitload on power letting the sun do the bulk of my growing.

You really seem to lack imagination.

I'd love to be able to grow outside again and grow some decent photos, but you know, being a bum and renting uni accom in the middle of the city throws that out for me. Stuck with one 70x70x160cm tent.

I long for a decent plot. last time I had 480w worth of light going 20 a day, three exhaust fans and three clip fans going for a bill cycle, my bill went from 350 to over $580 so I could do with the elec savings next time I get serious

You said autos are best done outdoors. That's not true. That's the the incorrect statement I was trying to let you know wasn't true. Then you posted your crispy indoor autos. I don't see the correlation between the two, unless you thought the photos of your crispy indoor autos were proof of your statement.
