Trim bins are great to trim over.. but then what? If you end up with nice sugar leaf u still need a way to process it.. i.e. screens or bags

M
Well u have to sift it over the 150 micron screen to separate it it works great I’ve never really processed Keef or hash further I was gonna press it or leave it as is

A the bottom of this post is a link in my signature for how to make “ qwiso”. Quick wash isopropyl hash is my go to for SAFE, fast, easy delicious hash with very little extra equipment. I’ve done this process for years in my kitchen and gradually refined it based off things I learned along the way and from others. If you follow the process you will get a clean cannabis extract that tastes like whatever the material was you started with.
Can’t you substitute ethanol for isopropyl, if purity is at or above 98%?
Seems like a “cleaner” solution, though I know hard-spirits (moonshine/everclear) are not always easy to find.

You can definitely use ethanol, some people prefer it. It works great as long as it’s over 90%, if it’s below that it will take longer to get the water out.

As far as cleaner, I don’t really think so. Isopropyl is a medical grade alcohol and is NOTHING but alcohol and water. I typically use ISO because it’s waaay cheaper, and I don’t currently have a way to reclaim the alcohol without heating the extract which I avoid. After years of playing with the process I’ve definitely found the best results when everything is done cold and when no heat is used during the evap process.

Everclear is 95% grain alcohol. I've heard it's way better than ISO. I've used it a little with ABV bud, but never with fresh shit. Someday I'll try your Qwiso recipe and use Everclear. I already have some. But could get a bigger bottle for next time.

I've used everclear several times. It works great, but I"ve never noticed it being "better" in any way.

Doesn't the extract taste cleaner?

And medical grade doesn't mean it's safe to drink. Just saying.
personally I never felt the flavor had any significant difference. Once the alcohol was evapped it was gone and all I could taste was the extracts when I dabbed it. I wouldn’t use ISO for a tincture, unless I fully evapped it and then added ethanol back in to dissolve and set dosage.

Not being safe to drink is irrelevant imho. No I would not drink ISO, but that’s because it’s not drinking alcohol, not because it’s contaminated. Once I evap it off it is gone and all I’m left with is the extraction.

Very first time I ever made it was with a stupid friend of mine and he was light a spoon with wax all over it he was using to stir it up with for easy collection we blasted into large bowls of water on fire like as I said stupid. We were in the heart of the explosion blown me off the half wall of the camper my friend had absolutely 0 hair on his face and his plastic wind breaker pants were melted and shredded like a cartoon only time I ever had a issue with a stupid friend
Hard to imagine it’s still your preferred method, tho

can i do the freezing in intervals? or does it have to be continuous 48hours? also for the hot water can it be a jar or strictly has to be a wine bottle?
For a quick cold ethanol wash, it should be continuous: you want to make sure everything is well below freezing, well before you start.

It doesn’t have to be a wine bottle, but for Frenchy, an empty wine bottle was easy to find, I’m sure. The bottle has advantages over a jar - the neck gives you a handle, the straight sides are longer

Metal screen is razor sharp and damages trichs.

M
The stainless screen that I use has round wires which are not remotely sharp beyond their small diameter, and I've seen no difference between trichome damage using it or silkscreen.

Both are significantly harder than the trichomes, so poor technique using either one certainly could, given that they will both have exactly the same size round threads.

I prefer it for rough screening because it stands up better, but like silkscreen for refinement because it has more spring action.

The fish trap exists only because of the fish and in the case of harvesting trichomes, the fish is taste and effect. You have to use a microscope to see them anyway, soooo I'm also betting that most folks can't tell the difference in taste and effect between an ugly damaged trichome and a purdy one.

After sampling various concentrates over the years, what I have noticed that I can taste the cellulose when either burning or vaping trichomes, even full melt, but especially trichomes with stems attached. A subtlety akin to the taste of a tea bag.

I have a lot of sugar leaves and want to use them, can make hash by crushing them up or should I just make cannabutter.
And back to the original question, may we talk about yield?

Even if you do use dry sieve or bubble techniques, you can't come close to harvesting the full potential without picking up excess plant material, sooooo unless you are willing to throw that semi-spent material away, you still need a way to harvest the rest.

Besides QWET or BHO, consider:
