Male reveg

So I'm revegging a male and so far it looks successful. I've revegged plenty of plants but never a male so I decided to give it a try. I've heard mixed results on the outcome but so far it seems like it's reverting back to veg.

I also did a reveg of a female plant that I had reversed and that went just fine.

I decided to try and reveg this particular male for a couple of reasons. One was that it was the stinkiest male I've ever grown. And two it had a strange leaf mutation that I'm curious to see if I can get it to carry over. I pollinated a female of the same strain with pollen from the plant so I'll be looking for a female that has the same leaf mutation and pollinate it again with pollen from the same male. That's if I find a female with the same mutation. It's not anything spectacular just something I want to do.

This is the male plant I'm revegging.

This is the leaf mutation. Or maybe not mutation but just something you don't normally see.

Regardless of the strange leaf structure I just mainly want to reveg a male that has already delivered pollen and see if I can go back for a double dip.

Pretty cool mutation right there, can see why. I would definitely want to preserve it myself .do all the leaves on him do it by any chance?

About 50% of the leaves. Some leaves had it on multiple blades but I somehow lost the photos and I cut the leaves off planning to dry them but forgot about them and they had shriveled up by the time I found them.

It's just an uncommon leaf but now I want to see if I can make it a standard trait. Could take years if I'm even successful which is pretty unlikely. But I'm going to give it a shot.

I've taken monster clones from flowering males they rooted and reveged in 5/6 weeks without much funky growth.
I know it can be done. From researching online it seems many haven't been able to get them to reveg successfully while others have. I'm seeing new vegetative growth so I'm confident I'll have it back in veg without issues.

I've just never done it myself so it's something I need to do. That way in the future if I talk the talk I will have walked the walk.

Never considered revegging a male but why not?

That is cool. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. I currently have a 50/50 success rate reveging (only tried twice). But when it worked, it was a good feeling.

Check more newbie posts if you to get into revegging. Many are quite successful without even knowing they’re doing it.

I have revegged a few. It’s not that hard but it does take time and extra nutrients is exactly what the plant doesn’t need. Or staying wet.

That's pretty cool, I had always heard that you couldn't...but that doesn't make much sense and I don't see why it wouldn't work now that I think about it.

How’s this reveg coming along? I’m very interested.
It's still alive. The top and bottom of the plant look completely different. The bottom appears to be revegging faster than the top. It appears to have stopped trying to produce male flowers and new growth is mainly single blade leaves. So it looks like in another month it may be back to close to normal growth. It's definitely fooling around doing it's own thing and taking longer than any female I've revegged.

It's just in a 1.5 liter nursery pot of coco so I'm going to transplant it into a 3 gallon pot. It's drinking and the roots are healthy so that's a good sign.

He’ll fly eventually with healthy roots.

When I select my males one of the steps is to send them in to flower for a few weeks and then stop the 12/12 and go back to 18/6. You might be shocked at how many do not stop flowering. I do not use those males. Read that from several breeders when selecting and testing.

What is the reasoning behind this?

I don't have time for that but I did come across that same information. I don't know if there is any validity to it and am rather skeptical. This plant has stopped flowering and is growing vegetation so if there is something to that then this male would be a keeper since it is revegging.

I gathered some pics from around the forum.
The clones were cut after sexing plants, they were never going to be flowered so I put the 3 in one pot

The pics below isn't great, its the ones at the back left.

Back left 3 in the pot, it looks like they could've been pruned.

I binned them after reading males aren't really required or not for my plans anyway.

They would add diversity which I don't want without the space etc etc to then grow and test, selfing is more suitable for my set up and space.

Planning to chuck some pollen aye ? :bigjoint:

Hopefully you will store some for later crosses.
We're beyond planning. That seems to be all I do these days. It's rare that I grow any plant and not pollinate at least part of it. The reveg is just an experiment but I'm planning to use some pollen from it later on to dust a couple branches of the outdoor plants I'll be growing this summer.

Here's an Ace Seeds Malawi regular seed male revegging.
Grown under lights indoors, i collected pollen off it.
I'd say 4/5th's of the flowers had opened and dropped pollen.
I then chopped off every flower that was left and placed it outside about a month ago. ~ 17 hrs of daylight at moment .
Temperature is cool, ~ 18°C daytime ~ 13°C at night.
There's new growth appearing but it's slow. Seems ok so far.
