Why does *everything* start/cause a fire?
The HV spike is short, ms if not ns. If a set of contacts do get welded shut, wheres the fire coming from? Only one light will be on anyways. The contacts won't 'single phase' either, its one set or the other. (I work with these things all day long, along with 25KV)
Open up the cord from your ballast to lamp. I bet its rated at 600V.
A ballast sitting in free air outside the grow room is fine. You think all them factories have fans blowing on *each* ballasts sitting up at the ceiling/lamp? (Its warm up there in august in southern Texas)
If the ballast is UL rated, its meant NOT to be fan cooled and is *insured* by UL.
LOL!
yup general population is proof common sense isn't.
Man I said it could be a fire/electical hazard for someone who has no experience to try to wire a timer and relay to a ballast. Thats a fact... Thats great if you work on these things all day long, that just means you have experience, that doesnt mean someone with no experience should try it. Most people on these forums end up here because they have no idea what they are doing, then you find threads with some kid who opened his ballast and wants helping wiring it back together.
I dont know about you, but my prewired 1000w ballasts get hot as hell, and keeping the ballast properly cooled will keep your ballast running more efficient, and it will last longer, just like the bulbs..
I never said you cant run a ballast without a fan....where my ballasts are running theres no airflow, so I use fans, if I didnt it would get way to warm... I would suggest anyone do this if theres no airflow near their ballasts.
I dont remember saying anything about factory lights getting hot, and I really dont care. The comment was for the person who said running a ballast 24 hours would get hot.
Where in the thread does it say any of these ballasts have been UL rated.....man I seriously doubt every grower has new UL rated gear. I have a few 1000w ballasts I no longer use that definetly have no UL rating, I used them for years with no issues.
Man it doesnt matter what the lamp chord is rated for if someone wires the relay and timer wrong.
