I didn't hear about the shooting until late last night talking to a friend on the phone. These are so common that I really didn't even give it any thought. I just asked how many were killed and said Oh. And I know I'm not the only one with that reaction. These are becoming so common that it's more shocking when a day goes by that you don't hear about one than when you do.

Does anyone know what Well Regulated Militia this killer was part of?

Well regulated means they are a good shot and know how to take care of their weapons. At least that's what it meant when the constitution was written, so some people say. We should always be constrained by what rich white men of the 18th century meant. At least that's what constitutionalist conservatives say.

Means something different to me. And I thing the constitution was purposely written vaguely so that it can be interpreted differently as times change. If people are unwilling to find ways to prevent what happened in Texas yesterday, this society, parts of it, have become strange to me.

And “militia” was every eligible male between 18 and 45. That word has also undergone tectonics and has moved. Now it means an organized paramilitary group. Like the privateers we sent into Iraq and Afghanistan.

Does this mean that a massacrist is simpky a failure of personal responsibility? How then to preempt the mass shooting phenomenon? Suggest something workable and not libertarian. Libertarian impulses lead directly to far worse groupthink, as MAGA has conclusively shown.

My suggestion started with spending money on making schools secure zones and employing people to guard them. There are several other things that could be done to curb this, but they would require judges and prosecutors to actually step up.

If it’s practical to send 54 billion dollars in taxpayer money to a foreign country for the sake of it’s defense, it is highly practical to spend whatever it costs to retrofit every school in America with safety measures and employ guards where possible.

It is exponentially more practical to pursue ideas like mine, than to ban semi automatic rifles in the US, if the intention is to actually mitigate school shootings. Banning certain rifles is a bandaid approach and further action which is even LESS practical (attempting to ban firearms altogether) would have to follow.

I’m for realistic fixes, not emotional responses with good intentions that can’t actually happen

edit: and when I say it can’t actually happen, it’s not like I wish it couldn’t happen. If guns didn’t exist my what a world it may be. It just won’t happen, so I am moving on to things that can actually be implemented.

thats not accounting for additional dual zone security doors and other measures at strictly controlling entry and exit points with more than just armed guards. My idea (not really my idea more ideas I agree with) wasn’t simply more guards it’s a multifaceted approach that’s necessary

You could have guards without guns, and possibly achieve the same effect. Tasers and such.

The US gun laws are too restrictive. If grade schoolers were allowed to carry, this wouldn’t have happened.

Eventually the majority will tire of the carnage and you'll lose your gun.

Gun owners still have a chance to take action to stop the ever increasing rate of gun homicides, but if gun owners won't step up to stop this, the majority who don't own them will.

You'll complain, of course. But if you don't care about people's lives then I don't care about your gun rights.
