Yofumo -- how soon until they release their proposed $360 tabletop curing unit for hobbyists?

Canndescent and Dark Horse have been using Yofumo curing devices for at least a few years now. Recently, I read that Yofumo will offer devices that for commercial scale. For example, there's supposed to be a tabletop unit ($360) and one that's even smaller ($60). But the online trail went cold.

Interested. Supposedly, Yofumo cuts curing time down by ~75%. If you're a hobbyist, paying for the extra months of electricity throughout the year does add up. So, it's helpful. Plus, between storms and life, things can interrupt your post-harvest efforts. Lots to dial in/measure throughout the year as seasons change. Yofumo's consumer-level products sound like they'd be helpful.

Does anyone have more information on when Yofumo will finally offer smaller scale post-harvest mechanical curing products?

Wtf you can keep your terpene infused buds.

“the ability to infuse terpenes into the flower, itself, in a clean and completely residue-free manner. Enhanced terpenes improve the overall smell and quality of flower creating a more valuable product”.

Brettman strikes again. I wouldn't mind constructive criticism, you're just so immature. I've yet to see you offer productive input. Why bother???

I don't even care that you're out there lurking. My new setup has four 4'x6' flood trays; and, in a separate area, a double-decker 4'x6' space for seedlings/clone/early veg. I'm doing just fine without lames lurking in the background.

Yes, that's cheating. I just liked the other aspects (saving time/money, improving consistency). I don't like that room temps fluctuate throughout the year (at least, they did in the old, shitty rental house). It just adds to expense/things you have to control, which is why I settle for staying within a range instead of obsessing over specific #s. Still working on it, currently adding insulation to the new space.

I believe my local dispensary uses this product and while their end result looks really good, it strips majority of the terpenes and turns almost everything into flavorless mids.
we have really strict microbial testing in hawaii, so ozone treatment basically sterilizes flowers so they don’t fail testing. I buy flower every now and then and am always disappointed by how little flavor and smell it has compared to my homegrown.

Yofumo offers multiple products, mechanized curing is just one of them. doubtful Canndescent and Dark Horse would back something that would turn their high end products into flavorless mids. However, the rabbit hole I was hoping RIU'ers wouldn't go down is trying to turn trash into gold. Yeah, if a dispensary produces mids, no equipment is going to turn it into top shelf bud. But if you're not cutting corners during the grow, you should have a quality product. The dry/cure part of it seems like an opportunity to avoid certain energy costs and time/wasted space -- that's the only reason I even brought this up.

If you're a hobbyist why would you need on of these?

First post, second paragraph, second sentence beginning with "If you're a hobbyist, paying for the extra months of electricity throughout the year does add up. So, it's helpful. Hobbyist is a vague term, I mean something less than commercial scale.

I just don't see the need myself. I also don't cure either. But $360 isn't that much if you feel the need for something like that.

I also don't share the same high opinion of Dark Horse if you're referring to the nursery that sells clones and if they backed something it would mean absolutely nothing to me. In fact I'd view it as a negative.

DarkHorse Genetics. They're not all I'm running, but their strains cover a lot of bases. You might even say they're ahead of the curve on what's trending. But you don't buy into trends, I appreciate that. While I like to offer variety, giving people what they want (or think they want) makes things easier for everyone involved.

The Undercaker (Savage Hulk (including Bruce Banner #5 for more of a strawberry diesel pheno x Zkittlez x Do-Si-Dos) x Strawberry Shortcake)
- flavors: strawberries and peanut butter
Rocky Mountain Strawberries (Bruce Banner #3 x Strawberry Shortcake)
- flavor: strawberries
Grape Cobbler (Grape Smash x (Zkittlez x Bitch Slap))
- flavor: grape.

Bitch Slap is Kosher Kush x OZ Kush.

I also have Cherry Pound Cake from somewhere else and some frost-forward strains from the Midwest. And still run elev8's Gorilla Cookies.

Also, still run Grape Ape, Green Gelato, and Taskenti, but plan on phasing them out or reducing their #s.

My local dispensary actually grows very well, probably the nicest facility in the state, it just gets messed up when they run it through the ozone machine that sterilizes everything for testing. It's a common complaint I've heard from a lot of other locals whose opinions I trust..looks A+ but no nose and muted flavors.
They claim its the only way to pass microbial testing in the state.

My thinking is if their system actually retained terpenes as well as normal drying, they wouldnt have developed a system to infuse terpenes back into cannabis. I would like to see a blind taste test done on flowers that have been ozone sterilized vs. typical hang dry vs. freeze dried.

I'd ask your dispensary if they use Yofumo's 1) Pro+ decontamination device or its 2) Pro+ cure device. The Pro+ cure device decontaminates but that's not all it does. Also, some of their devices have mahogany wood on the inside, which is supposed to naturally enhance terpenes -- if you want to think of it like an iron skillet, it adds more terps every time you use it. Yofumo recommends only using one strain per mahogany box, that makes sense considering what it's supposed to do. I know some companies are trying to apply whiskey aging techniques to cannabis.

My original question was whether anyone has updated info. on when a less expensive consumer model will be available. I read about it but it was in a pre-Covid article and it doesn't seem to have hit the market.

No worries -- I reached out to Yofumo directly, I'll find out. Thanks.

I think you may be confusing Dark Horse with Dark Heart Nursery.

That made me smile, and thus interested.

What is your pitch to home users? We grow plenty of weed, how does this make harvesting easier for people that don't suck.

There are lots of articles out there about Yofumo's patented curing/decontamination boxes. Below are links to four articles:
  • The 2016 Marijuana Times article states that some Yofumo boxes have terpene enhancing mahogany wood in addition to other features: decontamination, curing in only 25% of the time it takes for traditional methods, and achieving a more consistent product, etc., etc.

  • The 2017 Business Wire article states that Canndescent and Dark Horse support/recommend Yofumo curing boxes.

  • The undated Men's Journal article (presumably, pre-Covid) reported that Yofumo was supposed to come out with a much less expensive curing box for consumers/small growers that was to cost ~$360 (larger boxes are likely at least a couple grand). Covid and other factors happened, I haven't seen a more recent update. So, I emailed Yofumo and asked them for prices and availability. I'll update this thread if/when Yofumo responds.

  • I added a 2018 Leafly article that lists new curing tech companies and what their products/methods offer. Yofumo is listed.
