Its not the tool but the tools using the tool. Humans take credit when good and blame tools when bad. We dont talk about the warning signs given by shooters nearly as much as we cry its the muzzle length, magazine capacity, ease of access etc.
that's a false equivalency...guns are tools with only one job, and they enable the mentally ill to do that job incredibly efficiently.
i'm curious how you intend to stop the mentally ill from getting their hands on these weapons that no one has a legitimate use for?
are you going to require much more thorough, time consuming, and expensive back ground checks? ones that go into a persons mental health history? that would be a good first step.
possibly require ALL weapons to be registered to their owners immediately? and theft reported immediately? good idea.
are you going to restrict the sale of any magazines with more than a 5 round capacity? that would be a good step, too.
are you going to stop all person to person sales? make it a law with a harsh penalty that you must sell all firearms through a licensed dealer? excellent step.
how about very harsh laws about allowing children to obtain their parent's weapons? make it a felony to keep an unsecured weapon in reach of a minor? good...you actually seem to have a plan.
maybe restrict the sales of ammo to calibers of weapon that are registered to the buyer? why do you need 10,000 rounds of 5.56? says here you don't even own a 5.56? and restrict the sales of primers to rifle and shotgun only, and carefully track the sales of reloading equipment? i like your plan so far, seems like you've actually put some thought into it...
why don't you polish this little gem of a plan up and get back to us? we'll submit it to the government the same day, i promise
