Looking for clarification.

I've heard multiple people say things like "harvest your crop early when trichomes are clear and cloudy to receive that energizing + head high".foxtail-macro-bud-shot.jpg
Or "harvest when trichomes are cloudy and amber for that body high/couch lock high
example-of-many-amber-trichomes.jpg

With that logic when a sativa is harvested late it smokes like an indica and vice versa, is that correct? How much of this is true exactly because I've also heard those same groups say amber trichomes are weaker in THC than cloudy trichomes.

indica vs sativa 1.jpg
Indicas:

Are typically associated with full-body effects, such as increasing deep relaxation and reducing insomnia.

Sativas:

Are known for their “head high,” an invigorating, energizing effect that can help reduce anxiety or stress and increase creativity and focus.

This is my opinion …. It seems ” modern “ ( hybrids - Sat - Indy ) generally should run a minimum of 9-11 weeks ( actual flower ).
Regardless of breeder marketing. Those “ 8 week strains “ labeled seems to be marketing hype. Even autos - I run those without going week by week. I note only when stretch period slows or stops then to me it’s in actual flower. There will be a time when branching / leaf making is over.
Rooting continues thru flowering.

No need to watch a cooking pot as they say.

Good take, very insightful as usual.

I still feel like I haven't gotten an answer. A sativa harvested when the trichomes darken still gives the same as one harvested when cloudy just not as potent, or does that sativa start to give me a couch lock kind of high?

Triches are at times over thought - some strains don’t even amber until long chopped and dried.
Clear triches to me are immature but if there is a “ high percentage overall “ of cloudy / opaque, then I go by that instead of amber vs. cloudy.

Every grower can judge their strains by simple partial harvesting - take colas with ( minor clear / cloudy ) then peak cloudy or 50/50 type of ratio.
It can give insight on your preferences for that strain so realistically you decide when to pull. Like a steak , a little pink inside or shoe leather.
