If you’re having problems with pens you’re doing something wrong. Sounds like user error or you aren’t storing properly. Do you have storage solution?

Is this why all of the shops near me are switching to Apera and won't even carry BlueLab anymore due to how many come back and fail to calibrate with "Err"?

All my pens are stored in KCI solution it doesn't stop them from failing to calibrate (most common issue) or giving me shitty readings even though its "calibrated". I've gone through easily 3 of the standard pH pens by BlueLabs and on the 4th purchase I got the "soil pH pen" where you can screw the probe into the solution, it uses the "combo meter" style probe, that one has just recently started giving me super off readings even though it's "calibrated".

ERR is a hardware error not a failed calibration error.
Failure to calibrate can almost always be remedied by following the manufacturer recommendations for calibration issues. Most people fail to hydrate the probe and/or clean it.

I don’t know man. I’ve had two blue lab pens the past 3-4 years and they still both continue to work just fine and I have the soil PH pen and also their EC meter. I barely only have to calibrate every few months and that’s just to be safe. The readings are never that off for me. Idk it could be something in your solutions that’s messing them up maybe. But I wipe mine off and rinse after each use and store in KCL and have zero issues. I really feel like it’s something else that’s killing your probes if anything. And what’s making you think the readings are off? I find it highly unlikely that three separate probes went bad quickly. I have multiple friends with blue labs and we have no issues like that.
but as others have said there’s also Apera out there you can try.
I feel like you think your Meters aren’t calibrated but they’re actually probably giving you correct readings lol

Whose to say his shop didn’t get a bad shipment/damaged or damaged themselves during handling and storage.

yeah I’ve literally heard nothing about any grow shops switching to Apera only lol. That would be a big detriment to their sales and prospective customers and doesn’t even make business sense. Only reason I can see them not carrying blue lab is to save on costs of purchasing their product wholesale.

You may not live in the same state/county/city as me could be why? Maybe the ones they were getting were bad quality or second hand? I don't know, I'm just saying I know the shop I go through has 3 stores and they do not have bluelab anymore due to quality issues. I've bought Bluelab on Amazon and from GrowGreenMI and they gave me the same "Err" issue after 3-8 months. Maybe I just have bad luck or Michigan is being shipped bad pens? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I follow the directions and store the pens in BlueLab KCI solution, never rinse or dip in plain RO (they say it can damage the probe) and I have not had a BlueLab Pen to this day last me longer than a year. $10 for a huge bottle of pH drops that work 100% of the time or $100 for a pen that needs constant calibration and is likely to fail....
I can only speak from personal experience I wouldn't recommend someone buy BlueLab over Apera or just normal pH drops...

You mean you’re getting an err message when attempting to calibrate? That’s not an issue with the pen, that’s an issue with your calibration solution. Either it went bad or something got into it and you need fresh solution. I try not to keep calibration solution for too long due to this. anytime I get the err issue I know it’s time for new calibration solution. It’s like this because any changes into the sensitivity of the solution will negativately affect the calibration. I also recommend mainly using the bluelab solution that’s correctly calibrated for their pens.
again most people who have issues it’s due to user error. You’re literally talking about a company that supplies a majority of the professional commercial and home professional cannabis industry and calling it junk lol.

If a vast majority of people have no issues with a product but a small amount do, that doesn’t make a product junk. That’s not how that works. I’m not saying you didn’t get a lemon or lemons. But a majority of people have zero issues with them. I would recommend buying directly from bluelab or their Amazon so you have no further worries about your local equipment. You may be getting ripped off.
