Pre loaded coco V inert coco

If anyone is thinking of trying some loaded coco like I did then don’t is my advice ….. when I bought a 50l pack of “ eco thrive lite “ I was told it would be fine for seedlings and young plants as it was a lite mix I thought I had an overwatering issue and it was burn from the coco ….. plants on the left were all put into the lite mix and suffered whereas the plants on the right have been popped and put into an inert coco and are about 5 days old and already steamrolling past them …… I swapped the cocos over on all but one of the left sided plants and you can see two have started to look healthier but the rest are still looking miserable the shitty thing was I wasted a good number of seeds already thinking it was overwatering issue used same coco with new seeds but still seen same issues then I swapped to a different coco and I ain’t having any problems ….. lesson learned

Yeah if the coco has been buffered (they soak it calcium and magnesium) then the ec may be high. I bought some charcoir coco and the runoff ec was 1.2. That can kill seedlings. I usually flush new coco down to .3ec. I wonder if flushing out the ca and mag is a bad thing. Maybe the ec readings are from sodium too. Idk.

There are very few brands that I would trust to take straight from the bag and only verify EC. Since most anything I would buy in a bag I would rinse and sift out the coco peat to leave just fibrous coco and then buffer anyway, I just buy bricks and save money and space.

I see hungry seedlings in almost all of your pictures.

so to me that says grower error.

I’ve used Canna Coco Pro and natural, Compressed brick, Atami B’CUZZ, Century coco.

All of them need feeding instantly.

even the ATAMI B’CUZZ that a straight water wash will return 3.2EC runoff.

I think you fucked up to be honest with you.

That's one of the few brands I trust straight out of the bag. If it's not Canna, Roots or Royal Gold, then I'm doing voodoo stuff to it.

Photos have less than a week between then the ones that look underfed and yellow swapped from the charged coco ….. to pure coco both receiving the same mixture of nutes … I don’t think it’s grower error I think the coco is the difference as the feeding has been the same and the ones I put straight into the coco received the same nutes as the seeds before

Canna is the coco I have replaced the “eco thrive lite “ with and it’s worked wonders they’ve gone from yellow underfed looking seedlings to a nice green colour same nutes just different medium

I use whatever is available at the time. No buffering, rinsing or filtering. Brick coco I hydrate and put plants in.

Interesting. Do you use dry amendments or synthetic nutes? Is your watering style a wet/dry cycle or do you water/fertigate at least once a day and keep the coco moist?
