“Communist” nations e.g. USSR were hard right, sharing the same space as fascists and other totalitarians. This highlights that anticommunism is a cudgel used by the right to keep the flock tight. Hearing other authoritarians sound the alarm over the Communist threat is some heady batshit hypocrisy.
Also, social democracy is distinct from socialism: social democrats do not want collectivization of the means of production, transport and finance. This is imo the defining concept of a socialist nation.

I would argue that all socialism is to the left. Social Democracies' are considered left leaning due to the social benefits. In Social Democracies the state often owns most if not all the utilities. It often restricts private ownership.but not all left is socialist.

also, by what pipedream are the Democrats “conservative”?
You cannot say gun rights except in context of the nation, as the second amendment is unique in national and regional constitutions worldwide.
Conservatives here undervalue the separation of church and state. That is not describing Democrats.
Democrats seek a more equitable distribution of the gross domestic product. That is snticonservative.
So I think you need to make a strong case, or consider abandoning the ideology.

I'm not sure how you can think that the Democrats are not Conservative. They are left learning in the world wide political scale.
I think the case is pretty clear cut just on the availability of universal healthcare that other countries with a left leaning party have.
