Plastic vs. Fiber Pots

My Son got my Clons and put them in Plastic Pots said it don't make a difference.

He has two that were just setting there. We basically water the same.

Felt in the soil and it was wet. I'm thinking because they are in Plastic they don't dry out like Fiber Pots.

Anyway he has waterd them and they are starting to come around.

I use both, and like both for different reasons. I can still water everyday even in plastic pots. Then again most grow in more manageable pots that l do. 35+ gallons. The medium dictates the water holding capacity not the pot.

i found that fiber pots are hard to clean. i use them for large formats otherwise i would choose plastic in the future

I don't how plastic would work in the heat, 102f right now. The potted plants are in bags, 7 gal, 10 gal, 15 gal. I don't recommend fabric outside in the summer in the direct sun, but they are good for indoors. They need water 3 times a day, but the base soil drains too well and doesn't hold water (Roots Organic).

My plants spend the first few weeks in plastic so I think they would grow just fine.

Mine did just fine through a couple of heatwaves of 100°f+ days. Nurseries have been using black pots for decades. Cannabis is just another plant. If other plants do fine then so will cannabis. You just have to keep them watered and not let them dry out.

These plants are almost 5 ft tall now despite my attempt to grow smaller plants. They do what they do. I have to water them twice a day now but they're in 3 gallon black plastic pots.

Just a kitchen thermometer I stuck in the soil. Back on a day when temps were over 100°f.

One thing about fabric that's a bit negitive is the the soil that's close to the fabric dries out more and the roots arn't going there unless the soil is moist. If you don't give them a little extra water and it gets a little dry you may end up with 5 gal roots in a 10 gal pot. That's one of the reasons for plastic. The moisture should be more consistant. That's a plus.

true, while you can avoid that by wrapping the fabric pots in celophane foil.
at some point it will just imitate a plastic pot of course.

If you don't give them a little extra water and it gets a little dry you may end up with 5 gal roots in a 10 gal pot. That's one of the reasons for plastic. The moisture should be more consistant. That's a plus.

I only use fabric with 100% coco.

I use 20 gallon tubs you get at Walmart on my 3rd year for some. just drill a few holes in the bottom and fill ‘em up

Tree pot recycling is my go to, most greenhouses or nurserys have them. Can save mega bucks! Cellophane wrap works awesome btw.

OK I have many 5 gallon Buckets with holes I was using just need a pan for them to drain into.

Today I checked the Clones and found them moist after 3 days of not watering so they was over waterd.

I have both. With my Fiber Pots seems I water them more. My understanding is Fiber Pots will give plants more air to their roots.

I do like plastic for the fact is they clean up good and are easier to move around for me.

Too late now on my grow but maybe I should consider Plastic next grow just make sure not to over water. Right?

All else being equal a felt pot will give you a better root ball through air pruning

It's too humid where i am for felt pots i use the plastic air pots.
With air pots you get the benefits of air pruning without the drying out issue they're also extremely convenient they just unwrap off the plant

The pot itself makes a difference absolutely imo.

I like Air pots so much I keep adding different sizes to my collection. I'm 100% sold on them, I'll never use anything else.

That hasn't been my experience, at least here in the S.E. U.S.. I use 2"x2"x12" plastic pots for clones/seedlings, then it's fabric from there on out. All of my plants go through rather profound wet/dry cycles yet I've never had fabric containers not be fully filled with roots:
