How Do You Sativa People Do It In A 4X4?

Let me guess, you recline the seats, right? :p

First off, I'm not requesting assistance and don't need advice, the title is rhetorical. I've grown 97 Sensi's Jack Herer in a 2X5 closet and had to LST the shit out of them to keep 'em from hitting the 1 kw M/H Sunmaster Warm Deluxe, but it's been a very long time.

Since 2000, I have grown nothing but Northern Lights/SouthEast Lights, which are Type IV/Hybrids that are almost universally Christmas tree structured. Now that I've isolated the Type I/Sativa parental unit, I've been working a few plants. These are far from the Thai/Hawaiian originals, obviously, but these are damn tall plants. Can't put the lights any higher and two of the plants are 4" above the light getting ready to hit the tent ceiling:

My concern is yield. Without the usual large, dense colas NL/SEL produce, these buds just don't seem like they're going to produce enough useable cannabis. That's not a problem at all, as my wife and I have more than we will consume the next year or two.

But it got me wondering, do you sativa growers produce enough from a 4X4 to sustain you from one harvest to the next?

How long is a pice of string? Lol jk.
That depends on how much one smokes…
I find leds needs even canopy because it doesn’t penetrate as well as hps, thos plants look tall and the bottom portions will probably not do so well.
Prime example on how hps has the lead on led in a few circumstances.

Never went in for HPS, needed the MH to keep the plants as short and squat as possible in a 2x5.

Ordinarily penetration through the canopy is not an issue but with plants this tall, I'm not sure how much usuable light would get down to the bottom third of the plants.

Guess I'm just used to the little girls. :o

I would keep them vegging in solos as long as possible to keep them smaller and then when they get too big I would take clones and put them in flower as soon as they rooted. I would personally clear that tent some but since you're not looking for advice I'll just say best of luck!

May i ask what you feed herto keep her so healthy in that tiny pot
That was fed VitaGrow. It's a simple blend put out by a local company. It's only available in Oregon. Flying Skull Elite 3-part is basically the same thing with a few other things in it. It's a local company here as well. That one is available in some stores and online as well as in the UK and Canada.

Basically a micronutrient blend, calcium nitrate and MKP. It was fed nothing else other than tap water.

I grew one huge nl5/haze plant in a 4x4 under 2 600hps I topped and bent and topped and bent, and even topped well into flower as branches were getting away from me, this was like 7 years ago and I wasn’t too experienced so made a lot of mistakes, but the most I got was 15 oz per plant which wasn’t enough to keep me sustained. If I grew it now I’d expect a lot more bud due to me just being better at it and having a better understanding of plant science.

Flower them early and skip any long vegging time. Supercropping is your friend. I crammed this one in. I won't be doing that again though. I let it get too big before flowering.

That first one is quite the muscular sativa, any chance you'd share the genology of the seeds? Can't tell how tall it is but if your garage door is similar to mine, probably ~6 ft. I'm not used to the massive stretch, it's been a long time. Tops were 4" away from light when I went away for a 3 day weekend and when I came back they had grown into the light. Re-positioned 'em and a day or two later they were a couple of inches above the lights. Can't physically put the light any higher. This has been fun to experiment with but don't think I'll repeat it. The amount of cannabis I'll end up with won't justify the space it takes to produce them, for me, in my limited environment.

BTW, very nice work with cannabis and even more importantly, I respect how you conduct yourself here on RIU. Great restraint, I was going to change my avatar to what someone posted about you:

But thought a battered and bruised Barney, arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct, was much more appropriate for me. ;)

Both photos are of the same plant. It was an Oldtimers Haze from ACE Seeds. The second photo is just farther along and after I massively supercropped it to lower the height so it would fit in the tent under the light.

I would look into supercropping those in your tent as the tops above the light are not going to do much out of the light.

Another thing is that sativas do not like to much nutrients so you want to start out with a very low EC and bump it up if needed. That's why you have the claw on those leaves. Too much nitrogen will do that.

Good luck

Good luck.
