I see people working with NL1, 2, and 5. Never 3 or 4, I’m curious if anyone has any info on these strains.
I trust AKBB’s NL lines. Apparently, Todd Mcormick got original NL lines from the guy who made it: Seattle Greg.Info... search here on RIU for Northern Lights.
Seeds...no they do not. Nobody has six, seven, eight, nine, or 10 either... especially that asshat up in Canada (no offense to Canadians, Vic High was a mentor, the only thing I remember now is he was located there) who was marketing #9 a year or two ago.
I don't think anybody has the real one, two, or five either, but my opinion is in the vast minority, because I'm not selling anything and I'm not trying to make money off of somebody else's work.
And no version of NL is super weed and they're not magic beans, don't buy into the hype.
It's just good cannabis, doesn't smell that strong, is easy to grow, and it became a foundational, true strain of cannabis.
See the thread here on RIU, subject "History of Northern Lights" .I trust AKBB’s NL lines. Apparently, Todd Mcormick got original NL lines from the guy who made it: Seattle Greg.
I wouldn't believe much of what you hear about the origins of various strains. Especially what may or may not have happened or who got what from who 40-50 years ago. Almost none of it is reliably documented so it's just rumors, gossip, he said, she said, etc...I trust AKBB’s NL lines. The original was created by NL Seattle Greg (who needed it because he could not sleep, because of the horrors he participated in the Vietnam War), because he _needed_ it to sleep, and didn't have to impress anyone. It was standardized and homogenized by Nevil and was a consistent, reproducible, easy to grow, low odor, exceedingly nice high cannabis. What's so special about NL anyway?
I have indeed checked that out, thank you man. I’m just looking to see if anyone has seen any trace of them from curiosity really, didn’t see much on that thread about the subject.See the thread here on RIU, subject "History of Northern Lights" .
Grow the seed, I hope you're happy.
Sure, there’s a lot of people with fake stories. But I disagree that older genetics aren’t worth chasing. The truth and the history matter to me. Can I ever know if everything is 100% true? No. But I can do my best to research things and try to get as close to “the real deal” as I can.No strain is worth chasing around looking for hoping you get the "Real" deal because you're not going to. People out there say they got this and that. Most are lying.
I would have said that 30 years ago! And it is still most assuredly fucking true today. If you ever need any help on cannabis, and my experience has been dramatically different than all the recommendations you're going to get here on Riu, but if there's anything I can _ever_ help you with, please let me know! The truth and the history matter to me. NL is special in my opinion because it’s an original indica dominant hybrid that’s nearly pure Indica in a way which very few modern strains are. What's so special about NL anyway?
It was a ritual here in the 80's. And you may change your tune if you grew a few dozen over the years.I would have said that 30 years ago! And it is still most assuredly fucking true today. You're above statement simplifies and emphasizes most of what my blow hard fucking posts on this forum are all about!
I think a lot of people think of older strains and imagine they are/were almost completely unworked. People put time and effort into domesticating this stuff, it’s not ditch weed. Some of that older shit will put your dick in the dirt faster than most of these new super hype strains.I think most people assume NL is “grandpa weed” but they’ve probably never tried a good old NL.
I'm vaguely familiar with Mau's work at Positronics back in the day, they initially had a pretty good rep but kind of went to hell, didn't really follow anything after Nirvana was formed. It was a ritual here in the 80's. And you may change your tune if you grew a few dozen over the years.
Here is the closest I've found to the legend of my youthful grows.

I’m not sure what the story is on Mr. Nice seedbank but I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) it’s run by Gypsie Nirvana and supposed to be the successor of Shantibaba and perhaps Neville’s work. They have Ortega and Midweek song ships it to USA. Might want to try your luck?I would do anything I could by hook or by crook to get either Sensi's Northern Lights or Shanti's Ortega. Here in the states that's almost impossible and this guy's retired, but he is one of the very few fuckers who have worked NL that I _highly_ respect, and with cannabis, I can do that on one hand:
Peak Seeds BC
My limited associates in the closet days all agree Nirvana to be closest to our memories. And sadly it wasn't every plant.I'm vaguely familiar with Mau's work at Positronics back in the day, they initially had a pretty good rep but kind of went to hell, didn't really follow anything after Nirvana was formed.

Gypsy Nirvana doesn't have anything to do with Mr Nice, he is the administrator of IC mag, and where I got my original Sensi Northern Lights seeds from... he was a seed slinger when overgrow.com first started.I’m not sure what the story is on Mr. Nice seedbank but I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) it’s run by Gypsie Nirvana and supposed to be the successor of Shantibaba and perhaps Neville’s work. There nl is ok i agree but the closest ive tried was made from bc seeds stock from the old seedbank stock was nl5x2 that reminds me of the old nl i remember more than mostI'm vaguely familiar with Mau's work at Positronics back in the day, they initially had a pretty good rep but kind of went to hell, didn't really follow anything after Nirvana was formed.

My mistake, Gypsy is just involved at a distribution capacity. That being said, I don’t think shantibaba is doing the work for Mr. Nice at this point.Gypsy Nirvana doesn't have anything to do with Mr Nice, he is the administrator of IC mag, and where I got my original Sensi Northern Lights seeds from... he was a seed slinger when overgrow.com first started.
