Dehumidifier Planning in Humid Thailand (Flowering Room)

You can still reach your desired 50 to 60% humidity level by exhausting it somewhere else. The warmer, actually hotter air, will make that room very uncomfortable without a/c. Now if you want 40% humidity levels but 3 to 5 degrees hotter, then go for it.

Secretly I'm hoping that CO2 will allow me to forgo the A/C and my girls can bake in the dry heat and love it.

Reality says I am going to need to use every weapon at my disposal, so I'm glad the A/C is installed. If I don't use it, then I can relocate it to another room.

I will say that our little greenhouse for raising seeds reaches 44 C (that's 111 F) and the girls LOVE it! The humidity is so high inside that plastic tent/greenhouse that condensation is dripping from the ceiling and the walls, it's almost raining in there! haha. Hopefully flowering them in a room with CO2 and temps of about 31 C (88 F) will lead to good results.

The humidity isn't caused by the greenhouse it's caused by the relentless rain outside of it...it's 90 plus percent.

Humidity in Thailand is unlike anything I've experienced elsewhere. I did a deployment at the air base in Korat, in the mid 80's and its the 1st and only time I've experienced "Prickly Heat" and it wasn't fun, found out quickly what Snake Brand cooling powder was for, A/C in a can

British Dispensary Prickly Heat powder. Ubiquitous in any Thailand pharmacy or supermarket.

@Kgrim - Want to know something funny about British Dispensary? Apart from the fact they are NOT British and are in-fact a Thai company. They manufactured primarily 2 products for many decades.

1) Prickly Heat Powder
2) Anabolic Steroids. In particular, two incredibly strong Anabolic steroids named ANABOL & ANADROL. Famous in bodybuilding circles for building huge muscles. Famous in medical circles for Liver damage.

So these are two things the boys in the armed services would bring back from Thailand. Those two and the clap!
Steroids were (and still are) over the counter at the pharmacist's discretion.

My hydro store guy gave me a few options and I went home and did the research myself. I really liked the Quest and the reviews I found on it. He gave me 15% off this price https://www.sylvane.com/quest-70-overhead-dehumidifier.html and then charged me the tax. So I paid $1140 total plus the $75 for the duct kit.

Try that link and look at other similar units. There are some amazing ones that cost 3k plus that can suck every drop out of your room lol. I really liked this one for my room https://www.questclimate.com/dehumidifiers/hi-e-dry-120/ but the price is out of my league.

That seems like overkill "maybe Im wrong"..

I have over 1200 sq ft basement, my flower room is setting up to be 10x13 and I am using a 30 pint dehumidifier, its rated about 250 sg ft and so far is controlling the basement..

I gave 130 bux for my dehumidifier, its a For Living 30 pint Dehumidifier and so far its working great..

If all you are trying to control is 250 sq ft, you do not need anything more then a 30 pint "if that".

In Thailand, we have a Monsoon season. Do you have a Monsoon at the door of your basement? Hahahaha.

Here in my part of Thailand, we get 8 months a year of the rainy season. Some of it Monsoon. Some of it is just plain old pouring down rain. No light showers or sprinkles. God how I miss a light shower... hahahaha.

No but I had a flooded basement up to your damn ankles a bit ago, since then my humidity has been jacked up, if I turn this dehumidifier off that RH will climb up to over 80+%, Im sure Thailand is humid, but so is my igloo ass Canadian basement and a 30 pint is holding just fine so far.

I was going to go for a 70 pint dehumidifier "im glad I didn't" that would have been overkill for my basement.

The 30 pint dropped my humidity in my flower room from 84% down to 53% overnight and since then has held to where I set it.

It runs constant tho, if I turn it off my humidity will rise fairly quickly..

This dehumidifier is a band aid fix to a much bigger problem..

We are fully "gut to stud" remodeling the house here soon..

Getting your skills dialed in to maintain 50 plants, hope you got some decent experience..

Unless these are baby plants, 50 plants is a ton of plant for 1 person to handle.. Full time job and all night overtime..

I run 8 plants outside and they are more then any 1 person can handle before trying to bash their head on a wall..

I cant imagine trying to run 50 plants, just way too much for this old man to handle..

In my 10x13ft setup Im rebuilding I will have only a few plants but they will fill that room.

Makes no difference as your experience should be telling you. Whether inside your home or a greenhouse, the outdoor humidity is the cause of the rh in your grow room here. When it rains it spikes to 99 percent so the plants are not the cause and the solution is indeed dedicated machines and just kill your plants if you don't have one before it spreads and wipes out your entire crop of none native Thailand species plants.

I think that Playk328 didn't get that we already tried regular residential dehumidifiers and they didn't work. It's all depends on your situation. I tried 2 different top of the line 50 pint units and they hardly made a scratch in my humidity. The 50 pint unit gave me about 2.5 gallons of water every 24 hours and would not get below 60% humidity. Plus there was no place I could exhaust the hot air. It was basically worthless and cost almost $300 and only had a 1 year warranty.

At $1200, imo, the Quest 70 is totally worth it. Sucking out 6 gallons of water a day and getting the room humidity around 50% USING THE SAME AMOUNT OF WATTS as the residential 50 pint unit. If I let the hot exhaust air stay in the room I could probably hit 30% if I wanted to.

Plus, with the duct kit, you can duct the air wherever you want to and the 5 year warranty is awesome.

His little 30 pint unit works for him so in his opinion it should work for everyone. That's where he is mistaken, but I let him talk his talk without a response because it wasn't worth my time arguing about it.

I agree each situation is different, Im glad I dont live in a place where I need $1200 dehumidifier for a 250 sq ft room..

My place is humid as shit already, I wouldnt want to imagine any worst.
