Chinese versus Western lights

A few domestic companies do good work or have their “good work” made or assembled or both in China. The best lights from China or SE Asia will have excellent parts from known reputable manufacturers. Many LED light makers only last a year or 2 if that. Lots of really great values for the smart buyer.

if you know what youre doing you buy good lights in China and if you dont know what youre doing you buy crap in the west. Like that Flowa Powa One"made in Germany" 300 watt light for 1000eu, useable PPFD efficiency as good as a Mars hydro TS1000

"Greenception" another absurd overpriced light company with very, very basic efficiency, their marketing strategy is to make people believe they have that "very special spectrum" XD

What do you recommend for good Chinese brands?

So far we've heard that Kingbrite is good on this thread. What others?

I have had my eye on these for a commercial grow op:

Anyone please let me know your thoughts on these?
They use the Joson driver.

You may notice a lot of different “brands” with similar appearance. Different trim coming out of the same factory. You may notice many that look just like Mars products.

Mine came in kit form. A mate bought them and assembled them for me. As I said before, we could have had them etched as Mars Hydro. If I put them next to a Mars Hydro TS1000 you couldn't tell the difference. Mars Hydro are about £170 each, mine were £75 each, same spec.

Lights ten years ago required soldering to each diode and a lot of speculation and BS. Parts are all known now as well as light color function etc. The creation of efficient phosphors that convert blue light to white of different temps was huge.

I dont think they are fake factories. Def fake names lol. Certificates... IDK. I kinda trust Alibaba but not the brands on it. The quality def varies...

Would you guys agree that anything with a Meanwell driver or Inventronics driver is likely pretty good and reliable???

I wonder what are the top 3 reliable Chinese light brands? Maybe Kingbrite, Meiju, Hortibloom, Mars? Those ones I linked to above seem less popular but decent enough...?

Marshydro, SpiderFarmer, Phlizon, OmegaLED, PhotonLED the list of brands is endless. I personally think the only difference out of the whole lot is the customer service and after sales. (Also your budget)
Pretty much everything nowadays comes from china, They’re what I call a dump country…… they take every countries shit and then sell it back to all of us loooool

Western lights are just Chinese parts assembled outside of China.
If I could set the record straight I will tell you exactly where all our parts come from and where they are manufactured.

LEDs
Nichia are made in Japan. We use 757 series and UVA 3535
We also use custom LED Teknik LEDs which are specced in Australia but manufactured at a boutique factory in China, which we have visited and have a long relationship with. No-one makes LEDs in Australia.

PCBs
The PCBs are our own design. From scratch. They are not a copy of anything else on the market. The PCBs are manufactured in China because we can't get them made locally. We trialled a number of PCB manufacturers until we found one that did the best job. We use a special Taiyo solder mask specifically designed for LED reflection. Taiyo is a Japanese company.

Assembly
The PCBs and LEDs are shipped to us in Perth and assembly is sub-contracted out to a local company. The assembly process includes solder-wiping the PCBs, pick-and-placing the individual LEDs, and oven reflowing. It also includes hand-assembly of individual LEDs that do not light up after they come out of the oven and have been tested (and failed). We also hand-assemble some custom spectra boards in-house (in our own factory in Perth).

Conformal Coating
We coat the LED panels in-house using a conformal coating that is made in a Western country (not Asia), but which we would rather keep to ourselves at this stage as no-one else uses it and it took a lot of trials to find the best one.

Heatsinks
Designed by us, but made in China from a generic extrusion to save costs.

Cabling
Made by Techno in Italy using Italian connectors and cable. We used to buy the Techno connectors and then cut and assemble cable in our own factory using German Lapp cable, but now we order moulded cables direct from Italy. No Chinese parts used.

Loom
We make our own looms in-house using a combination of TE and Techno connectors which we assemble and epoxy by hand. All cabling and looms are our own design.

3D Printed Covers
Designed and made locally.

Stainless Hangers
Made in China to our own design.

Aluminium extrusion
Made by Item of Germany. Designed and machined locally.

Packaging
Boxes made in Australia and fixtures packed in Australia.

Drivers
Mean Well and uPowerTek, made in China (some used to be made in Taiwan). We hand-assemble our own Techno connectors and AC cables as the drivers do not come with connectors (uPowerTek come with AC plugs, Mean Well do not).

Lighting fixture assembly
All done in-house at our factory.

Everything we can source locally in Australia we do. Anything we can't, we choose whatever we think is best – not necessarily cheapest. Everything is designed here and made to our specs (apart from LEDs etc) – we do not sell re-branded fixtures.

they pick western names its an entire thing all asian countries who chose a CS job will pick a western name
because westerns are too asshole sometimes to attempt to pronounce their actual given names with respect

its a industry problem as a whole , very few chose to call themselves by their given names.

but its also specific for the women side it also stems of aggressive males who lash out at us women.

I could send an email as Frank and get better results with someone than sending it with my actual name (im a woman )
its a problematic situation all around.

Here in America companies like to use the term "American Made" when literally no part of the product is actually made in America it's just assembled here. It's not just LED lights but all types of products. It's the way things are. I personally don't care where a product comes from as long as it does what I need it to and is available for a decent price. I'm surrounded by Chinese products. Just looking at the label on my computer mouse the brand is Corsair, there is an address for the company in the Netherlands, and it says made in China. I'm perfectly happy with it and could care less if it's made in China, Mexico, America, etc... Where the parts are made, where it's assembled, doesn't matter to me. All that matters is that it works and was a good value which it was.

I guess my post was more for the people that don't understand that even the US companies are using Chinese parts. I've read comments where it's obvious some think that X light is literally American made when it's basically American assembled. With todays global supply chain it's rare that you'll find any product manufactured 100% in any one country other than China.

Bravo for telling it exactly how it is, it’s this kind of transparency that sets the tone for people to do business!
