For me, that point is assisted viability ex utero, which can be as early as 16 weeks.

The protoheart starts beating very early in development. Barring miscarriage, it is still in the “gonna be someone some day” category,and too close to the peremptory “it begins at conception” uh, concept.

The gestational clock starts at the first day of the last period. Implantation occurs in week four. A heartbeat can be detected as early as week five. So imo using that as the criterion is driven by exterior doctrinal considerations, typically based in religion.
