Callus Formation in Clones

What ppm IBA for clones is everyone using these days? I've just been using the cheap 1000ppm stuff for ever, but thinking about getting 3000ppm instead.

I've been using the 0.1%/1000 ppm Miracle-Gro powder for years. I've also used honey and sometimes nothing at all and still get clones to root. Why do you want to use a 0.3% concentration? I don't think it matters much with an easy rooting plant like cannabis. I'ved used Clonex in the past which is 3000 ppm and didn't have any different results than I did with the cheap 1000 ppm Miracle-Gro powder. I usually get 100% rooted cuttings regardless of what or if I dip them in something.

Years ago I mixed my own IBA solution at 0.3% and had the same results. I stopped bothering to mix it because the Miracle-Gro powder works just fine and is cheap and easy to use.

Used to use the purple gel. Now I use all the ground cinnamon we found cleaning out the spice cupboard. Dip the slightly damp stem in dry cinnamon and into the medium. Cinnamon is a natural fungicide that helps most plants root while inhibiting the spores that can cause rot in cuttings.

It's amazing how much stuff you can find in your kitchen that works for a variety of non-cooking purposes. I've stopped buying many products and just use what's already in my cupboards. Once I use up the container of Miracle-Gro rooting powder I have I'll just use cinnamon and honey. I replaced neem oil with sesame oil and I use citric acid for killing active infestations of bugs. I have found that these all work as good or better than commercial products and are a mere fraction of the cost and I always have them in my cupboards.

My costs for growing cannabis are extremely low and I continue to lower that cost any chance I can. I'm growing cannabis not generating profits for some company.

have you tried dip n gro? It’s 1% IBA and you dilute it to preferred strength. I’ve bought it at Ace hardware before and tried to get some recently but all they had was rooting powder.

You can buy 99% IBA online and then just mix it yourself to whatever concentration you want.

Yeah, I've tried it at school a couple of times. Seems to work well, but it's so thin, I kind of like power type like hormex or a gel type like clonex better.

Clonex uses hydroxyethyl cellulose as a thickening agent. Its a little pricey for the stuff. I wonder if you could use something like xantham gum to thicken up dip n gro and make it stick better?

I know it seems like marketing BS from the rooting hormone companies, but the different IBA concentration have a legitimate purpose: More woody the tissue the more IBA you need to induce rooting in those cases.

If you doing cannabis yea, the 0.03-0.05% stuff will work just fine but when I've done plants like trees or other hardwood 0.2-0.8 might be necessary to get them to root

For herbaceous, tropical plants, house plants, roses use 150-500 ppm IBA. For chrysanthemum use 150-500 ppm IBA dissolved in water (concentration is dependant upon growing conditions). For softwood cuttings use 1000 ppm IBA. For hardwood cuttings use 2000 ppm IBA. For difficult to root hardwood cuttings use 5000 ppm IBA up to 20000 ppm IBA. 20000 ppm IBA with very fast dip time is used in rare cases for extremely difficult to root plants.

I've used Guar gum for some microbial inoculants and that works wonders as a natural thickening agent. you only need 1.25gr/100mL for a CloneX gel constancy

Yes, I'm aware. But additionally some herbaceous cuttings also show increased rooting with higher % of IBA. I haven't seen any specific studies on cannabis however.

I took a tray of cuts on Saturday from some plants that are about 3 weeks into flower. I decided to let a few of the cuts stick out of the bottom of the oasys cubes for kicks to try this “slownickel” tech. I have a little callus forming on some of them, and this 92og already has a little root forming.
Problem is all the action is taking place outside the cube and the cubes are mostly just acting as support. I’m pretty sure all this same stuff takes place inside the cubes where you cant see what’s going on, but I did set a personal record for shortest rooting time with the 92og.
