To flush or not to flush?

Regarding flushing, I've been told to do it and also told to not do it... Who's right?

My understanding is that you only flush if you have salt buildup or if you must reset the medium to try to correct issues that are occurring. I personally don't know anything about hydro or similar so I'm only referring to soil-based mediums.

Can someone clarify this for me?

I like to flush for 1 week in coco, but I know it's not needed. Flushing doesn't really do a lot, other than save your self money on nutrients. Most Professionals don't flush at the end. It's only really needed if you have a salt build up. On my next grow I am going to feed right until the end and see if I notice any difference.

I flush , the only reason why is that I reuse the soil , amend it for next runs so i don’t want to much of a build up….then get the microbes busy breaking stuff down and have healthy soil….

I feed right to the end and rinse my coco after harvest. I don't like the idea of starving my plants while they ripen in order to get a jump on rinsing out the growing media which only takes a matter of minutes after harvest. My opinion, grounded solely on bro science of dubious value, is not to flush as a regular practice at the end of a run. Just feed em, fatten em, harvest, flush for next run, in that order.

My nutes (CES) have a detailed feeding chart. I don't follow it exactly but it is a good reference. It lightens up near the end but there is no "flush".

You’ll want to dump 10x the water you normally do for the last 4 weeks for a proper flush to make sure the chemicals aren’t in the buds anymore.

What I want to know is, when "people" talk about flushing chemicals out of the buds, what chemicals do they imagine are in the buds?
