I told them my reply email that I do not know how to soder(true) and that considering it almost burned my house down, and is still under warranty, I think it should be replaced-will see what they say. If I replace the connection, whatever issue caused the fire is still present and it will just happen again. The only thing I can really do is sell it as I no longer feel comfortable running these lights in my house, but I could at least get a few hundred dollars for it if they send me a new one I guess. Not sure if it is worth killing some guy in a fire for 400 bucks though.

Edit for the guy asking- it is a mars hydro FC-8000. I also have the FCE-8000 which has not failed.......yet.

If you sell it just make the person aware of the risk with the light and he's using it at his own risk.. but yeah if something happend to that person I would feel terrible ..

That's crazy. They should send you a brand new light immediately and include a pre-paid return postage label so you can put that one in the box the replacement comes in and send it back at their cost. Expecting you to replace the connector yourself is ridiculous.

Did they really want you to replace that connector? I have a hard time believing that a company would expect you to fix that yourself. It may not be difficult but damn. The thing could have started a fire. If what you say is true their resolution to the issue is insane.
Here is the email they sent.

Hello Jon, Thanks for your email letting me know the problem, don't worry I'll be here to help you. After the inspection of our engineer, it should replace a joint to solve the problem. However, because the wire was burnt, it needs to be stripped again. Attach the link to the operation video:
1) If you know about electricians, you can reconnect yourself. The steps in the video may be more complicated. Here is a simple text description. There are many maintenance tools in the video, but don't worry. In fact, you don't need to use so many tools. A)Cut the burnt cable with only a pair of scissors. B)The next step is to cut off the cable skin and leak the copper wire. In fact, you can use scissors or pliers. Attach the operation video:https://youtube.com/shorts/nty46tqErSE?feature=share C)The next step is tin dipping, just to fix the copper wire and connect it better. This step can be omitted and directly tightened.
2)We will resend a connector to you. If you do not know the electrician's knowledge, we suggest you find an electrician to help you with the installation, and we will reimburse the expenses for you.
3)As our M23 connectors are temporarily out of stock, they are expected to arrive at the end of this month. Would you like to wait about 2 weeks? If you have any other ideas, you can let us know at any time. We will try our best to provide you with a satisfactory solution. So sorry for any inconvenience again. Best regards, Janet

It is a 900 dollar light(I payed 1k for it a year ago). I would only be able to sell it for 4-500 bucks even if it was new on craigslist.
Tell them that you pay 1k for this damn light and your fixing a problem for another one to accurately u want a New light.. plain as that

Good grief.

That's crazy. So they'll reimburse you to pay an electrician to do it? That could cost a couple hundred bucks that you have to put out of your pocket upfront and wait for reimbursement. And you still have to wait 2 weeks for the connector. That is not a solution if you have one light and this happens in the middle of your grow.

I can't understand how they don't replace that light ASAP. Nothing surprises me these days when it comes to cannabis related companies. It's as if customer service doesn't apply. At least with some of them.

Well good luck. I'd be livid. In fact I'm mad just hearing about this. I got not nothing more to say. They're a site sponsor so I can't say what I really think.

I am not happy either. I am literally only trying to warranty it to sell it second hand, and not even sure I should do that. I am getting rid of my other FCE 8000 as well, it is not worth saving a few hundred dollars when it could literally kill someone.
