thats exactly what i was talkin about, the construction grid wire, its like 100 bux for a roll of it but is sturdy as a mofo and can cut to length, i would love to put 4 1000s in a room with the setup i described and pvc octogarden type setup, that would be dope.. theres a system that fdd had pics of that was simliar that looked really cool. if i had more space i would def. hook up a few of those

yes me and my girlfriend both have recs and are completely legal.. i would not be doing it otherwise

It was my understanding that for Los Angeles, the limit was 6 mature planets OR 12 immature planets AND 8 ounces of bud, per patient. Thus, as soon as you have 3 mature plants, you can only have 3 immature plants.

Thus, considering the size of your grow, you must have a lot of other family members who are also patients.

I understand that the Court has ruled in favor of no plant limits, but this is being appealed by the attorney general.
I like the no limits on plant or light wattage in Santa Cruz.....and some of those other counties up north.

yea, I paid about $150 at home depot for 5" x 100" of wire. They had to use a forklift to put it in the truck.
I found a good write up about how to build tomato cages on the internet. Lot of fun.

do you know how or have you ever tried to recreate the 2 plant 4.5 pound ??
i have been researching the vertical lighting since there is basically no loss with that method my legal plant count is 15 and i currently just run them in soil with a 1k hps.
any thoughts on what you know about the critical mass or any ideas on a vertical setup with 15 plants . i have a 10' x 10' room with 8 foot ceiling

thanks man appreciate the comments.. i have not heard from heath in a while who knows.. but this system is a copy of one he did a while back.

as far as critical mass it is made for yield, that is partially why he got such an amazing yield, plus the massiveness of his root system in the dwc system he uses.

if you read up a few posts i described a great system you could use with just 5g buckets of soil, a bare bulb, a few fans and some construction wire. basically cut out a large circle, put your plants around the perimeter, veg them out to about 18 inches, weave the branches making a vertical scrog, and clip off all of the branches on the back side.. you will easily pull off a few lbs and make a canopy surrounding your light... no wasted light, massive plants, plenty of support, and best of all no popcorn nugs! ill make up a crude paint picture so you can see what i am saying.. hold up

Great, I thought I read that you lived in santa monica...must have been a mental lapse.

I did some research last week on homes in Humboldt and Santa Cruz counties. I am sure the weather and other considerations makes Santa Cruz the better area. Found some real nice country homes with some small acreage up there in scotts valley and to the north. Prices appear to be comparable to Los Angeles / burbank area and it sure is a lot greener.

im using fox farms with a little added pearlite.. and as much as i love soil, it is a lot of lugging and changing and bugs to deal with, like the battle with gnats i am having now lol

i do like using soil and if i had a yard would love to do so, because bugs wouldnt be as much of an issue but for indoor i think hydro is easier to maintain and keep clean. all you ever gotta change is water and clean some pebbles ya know?

and ya i donno how i got all this in here with nobody noticing LOL.. luckily i had no neigbors when i first started, but now i have a few and bringing the soil in at 4 am was not too much fun walking up 4 sets of stairs with 8 bags of soil LOL. i will say if i could do it again, i would either make it smaller so the plants could be closer to the lights or use 1000s with these dimensions, cuz as you can see i have plants about a foot away with no heat issues, so i know i am losing a lot of efficiency

mixing the media in a grow opens the roots up to more pests, and in your setup things like mites and gnats can get out of control fast.

i keep looking in because i want to see how things stack up, but before you flower you have to be pest free and fighting that many battlesin your area can get nasty. i feel your pain and have been thru every type of pest. when running hydro, you need to protect those bare roots like solid gold, because once they get you..... its only a matter of time

ya i had been fighting em for a tad bit, but i have them pretty well under control.. i am going to be pushing em hard with all my tools of destruction for this first week.. as long as i can keep their numbers down i am not to worried about them.. the mites do a shit ton of damage but the gnats have never given me too much trouble... having gnats is just a part of having soil lol you always find one or two flying around.

if they get bad enough i will get some gnatrol, but for now they are mostly in the soilers, and have been putting potato slices and sticky traps everywhere LOL but ya bud i know what you mean they can get outta control pretty quick if left to their own devices. i just wanna get this grow done because i cant wait much longer due to my lease being up.

greg, i have seen the octogon which is great, i have seen a few made of pvc which are really slick.. and i like the looks of the wheel of green, looks similar to what heath posted in his other critical mass tree grow thread

I have been considering moving to Santa Cruz but have to sell my house here in Los Angeles, so, it might take some time. In the meantime, I was considering renting for awhile to become familiar with the area via looking at homes for sell. Been looking on the internet but it's not the same as seeing the area in person. Are rentals hard to find up there? Is the recession having an impact up there? A certainly has in the inland empire down here. Properties are down 40%+ off from their highs in Riverside county. We are are probably down 25% in the Burbank area.

there are quite a bit of rentals up here.. and a lot of foreclosures. you should have no problem if you came up for a weekend or two finding a place.. craigslist is a good place to find rentals now that they have added a santa cruz area listing

i forgot about the bugs, if you think they are comin from the soil try NEMATODES. My hydro guy said it worked great, so i tried it and started to notice in 3 days about half the number of the little guys on the sticky traps. after 8 days almost total destruction of the whole population!!! I noticed a small return about 4 weeks later, treated again after 6 weeks and worked again. I do it every 6 weeks with the last 10 days noticing them returning. normally once when i transplant to 5 gallon pots, then at 45-50 days.Not really a issue anymore but some variables may alter the true affects with plants leaving to harvest, clones coming from outside mothers, clones coming from other growers, fresh dirt and compose.

well I wanted to update on my bug problem... i had let my babies dry out really well which i think killed a good portion of the larvae, and had also been soaking a mosquito dunk in my food with a pump for two days to get it circulated in there nicely.

so i fed them last night, sprayed em all down with insecticidal soap, and watered them with the BT laced food. I have also had mosquito dunks in my hydro system for the last few days, and usually when i go in after the dark period there is about 100 of the little bastards clinging onto the dunk for dear life, but today i only saw about 10, so i def. have them on the run.

because i am in straight hydroton, they dont have a chance to really cling in very well, so the larvae in the hydro depend on the fact that the ones who populate the soil continue to get out and repopulate the hydro babies..

even though they are all about dead, i am going to get nematodes for some insurance to kill off the bastards in the soil, which will in turn stop them from repopulating the hydro girls.

anyways just wanted to share what i have been doing to kill the buggers off, so if anyone else is having trouble, they can take some of these steps to get rid of em.. if i totally rid myself of the population i will go ahead and write up a guide to eradication of them.

anyways we are now on day 2, girls are looking great! i will do an update at the end of the week when i switch to flowering nutes so you can see how much they have progressed!
