I personally take my anonymity VERY seriously, as does just about everyone else who comes here, seeing as how what we do is an EXTREMELY risky thing to come on n talk about with hundreds of people you dont know. But, what if somebody were goin around, saying that they traced your IP address, looked you up online, knows who you are, and is basically trying to stalk you ? (or rather, tRYING to stalk you, lol - people who come here should be smart enough to know not to use a name that will connect them to anywhere else on the net at all, lol).

Wouldnt that make you feel unsafe?? wouldnt that merit said stalker to be permanently banned from the website, seeing as hes threatening the one thing that we all hold dear and near while we are here trading off pics and grow tips?? OUR PRIVACY!! - Personally, i just think that having somebody like that in our community is an extreme risk - even if theyre just talking shit and making threats that they can never deliver on - its still un nerving knowing that somebody is retarded enough to even think of doing something like that to any one of us, while he himself claims to BE one of us. How would YOU GUYS feel if somebody was threatening your privacy here at RIU??

well any way some one used that as an exploit,
because it has everyone name on it, and like you
said some people use there e-mail name here in the
forums. alot of those people use the same password as there
e-mail. the only thing I'm saying it makes it easier for someone trying to
get to "you" not the website. alot easier.
The Admins should think about not making that avaible
The Members List.
And all the people who are on-line in the forums, it names everyone of us.

I Personally I think every sub-forum should be private, except the general forum.

As much as i wish i were talking about the cops, or any other authority figures, im not. i am referring to someone who claims they are a fellow RIU member. Basically what would be the equivalent of somebody in your inner circle of friends in real life, who got mad at you and decided to turn snitch. somebody that on any normal day you would consider to be one of the regulars here at riu, but then one day just turned into some fuckin retarded stalking motherfucker, who tries to find out who you are, and wants to start making threats, compromising your privacy. it doesnt matter if you have a computer where you grow and post shit from there, as its not a law enforcement official, its just a crazy person posing as one of us. Thats a little bit of a different situation, yes?? would you feel comfortable knowing that somebody on RIU that posts on here regularly decided one day that he didnt like one of us, and started searching to dig up information on ANY one of us, so he/she could threaten to use it against you, is what im asking basically. do you think that that type of person has business being here amongst us, let alone growing pot in the first place?

this sites domain registration is public info and can be found out about every website in the world.
RIU however is smart enough to register through "Domains by Proxy, Inc"
all of the info in that registration belongs to "Domains by Proxy, Inc" and is meaningless
as for someone tracing your ip address. it cannot be done. they could get your ip and narrow you down to an internet service provider and maybe a city but then they would need to get your personal info from your ISP and they wont gove it out unless they have a subpeona and thats not happening. unless you have a static ip that you personally own in which case it would show the info you used to obtain that static ip.
99.9999% of all the people here have dynamic ip addresses that probably couldnt even be traced back to you by your own ISP .. they just dont keep good enough records of who had what ip at what time.
and as for stalkers and people threatening to track you down ... i say ban them even if they are full of shit. we dont need that here

it's public info.

Call it a thought experiment. How many of those stories on the news have involved a small scale grower, which I would say is the majority of those here on RIU? Furthermore, The War on Drugs is hardly primarily focused on domestic growth, but rather on "harder" drugs grown overseas. Read the fact sheet on the gov't website. Marijuana, in many states across the US anyway, is quickly becoming more and more "legal". In Denver, and therefore most of Colorado, an adult can possess up to an ounce and still only receive a fine, provided they don't have a scale etc (showing intent to deal). In Santa Cruz, and in most other parts of California, medical marijuana is allowed, and has been carried over to recreational use, landing tops a $250 fine, and you can still keep the bag, where many police just don't see it as dangerous compared to other drugs.

This is a marijuana forum, and marijuana in America is quickly becoming a more accepted ideal.

Now, if we were a crack forum, I'm sure that would be a completely different story...
