January 6th hearings on Trump's failed insurrection.

Have you already decided that the hearings and investigations are all just for show? That nothing will happen because the fix is in?
I don't know...I don't think the DOJ is crooked, i don't think Garland is crooked...But i do think he doesn't belong where he is, he should still be on the bench. He was a very good judge, but the same qualities that make him a good judge make him a weak prosecutor...
i do not think there is a conspiracy at the DOJ to let trump or anyone else off, but i do think that the republicans sure as fucking shit aren't sitting idly by waiting for shit to happen. They're out covering up as much shit as possible, buying off anyone with a price, throwing as much shit in the fire as they can, hoping the smoke will obscure the mirrors...
And tell me for one second that we don't have at least a two tiered justice system. They've prosecuted and convicted people for having fewer documents than trump had, and he's still walking free. WHY? He can be tried for separate crimes separately, Lock the fucker up for what you can lock him up for now, so he isn't out muddying the water any more.
I really would like to hear a clear concise answer on that, why, when one document has been enough to jail others, aren't several documents enough to jail trump?

Before Trump. The most recent cases where people were convicted of violating the Espionage act took two years between the arrest and the conviction. It's been about 8 months for Trump, though he hasn't been arrested yet. He has more access to lawyers than either Terry Albury or Daniel Hale, so yes, it's a two tier system and one document was not enough for an immediate conviction.

I think “others not having the violent loyalty of tens of millions” might be relevant.

Prosecuting a former chief exec who still has the attention of the one in three of us who are ok with overthrow politics requires a higher standard of care. We effectively have one shot at roping one bigly greased pig.

we could just barbecue the fucking pig...problem at least partially solved.
i don't think it's one third of Americans who are ok with overthrowing the government, i think it's one in three republicans...which would be more like one in seven or eight of us...still a very high number of seditious assholes... but not 33% of the entire country...a third of about 30 %. How many of them are shit talkers? how many of them wouldn't have the guts to put themselves at personal risk? how much of that is bias from the way the poll was conducted, where it was conducted, how it was worded?...i think in reality, it might be more like 5% than 30...

I would say the number of Republicans who have indicated that they’re not ok with overthrow politics is a minority. Look at what they elected or reelected this last time.

that is true, but in reality, i think that most of them that would be willing to actually put themselves in harms way already did so on Jan.6th, and are now either in jail or waiting to go...redneck assholes love to talk a lot of shit, but 99% of the time, they can't back it up. If they could, i would have spent a lot more time in the hospital than i ever have, because i love to shit talk shit talkers...
Even the ones that showed up on 1/6 only went through with it because there were so few police to stop them, and they knew that their republican sponsors were keeping the national guard and the DC police away for them.
While i won't rule out riots and some unrest, I'm not too deeply concerned about armies of magats marching through the streets.

Being ok with overthrow, as signaled by voting for maga, is a softer standard than actively participating in the violence.

Not being ok with overthrow requires recognizing that the party’s legislators went in on it en bloc, and voting accordingly.

So I’m not worried about a replay of Jan 6, but am of Nov 8.

Schiff hammers Garland: What’s taking so long in Trump criminal probe?

New reporting from CNN and The Wall Street Journal reveals Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was subpoenaed by Special Counsel Jack Smith in the criminal probe surrounding January 6th. Former January 6th Committee member, Rep. Adam Schiff joins MSNBC’s Ari Melber saying it’s “detriment of the public” that The Department of Justice has “taken this long” to move against Trump insiders. Schiff also comments on the Georgia grand jury probing Trump election crimes after a new report showed 75 witnesses have gone under oath.

Proud Boys subpoena Trump to testify at seditious conspiracy trial. What could possibly go wrong?

32,868 views Feb 17, 2023 #TeamJustice
Some of the members of the Proud Boys organization who presently are on trial for conspiring to violently overthrow the government on January 6, 2021, are trying to subpoena Donald Trump to testify in their defense.

This presents a problem often encountered in criminal trials: a defendant tries to exercise his 6th Amendment right to compel witness to testify BUT the witness has a 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination and can therefore refuse to testify. And Donald Trump quite plainly has a 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination in connection with the insurrection. This video discusses what happens when constitutional rights collide.

So, the defense wants the prosecution to assist them in their effort to compel testimony. Laughable.

Donald showing up won't help them, if they could get him to show up. Donald has his own legal trouble the walls are finally closing in on him and appear to be picking up speed. So far he got a thousand morons and lunatics who invaded the capitol screwed, dozens of lawyers and maybe another thousand republican suits of one sort or another. Donald is gonna make the few dozen Nixon took down with him look like an amateur effort!

at least he is stripped of a recent ploy: complaining about not having been invited to testify.

I hope some key legislators get called front&center.
