War

300,000 young men dead or wounded last year. Minimum estimate.

No end in sight.

And you laugh.
They laugh, Ukrainians and Russians, it's not exactly a tragicomedy, like with Trump, but it does have its moments. War is a tragedy for all involved and war happens on a social level too and calling someone a magat dehumanizes them as much as calling them an orc, but it also describes them. I find it funny that people lose sight of that.

What Russian assault in the spring, you mean Ukrainian offensive in the spring! The Russians are trying as hard as they can now and losing more men a week than if the Ukrainians Blitzkrieged them and captured the lot with encirclements. I think the Ukrainian offensive will save Russian lives in the long run, if not the Russians will continue to throw poor untrained bastards into the meat grinder.

it's good to see that they have at least a few people who aren't fools. They're the ones that may survive to negotiate for peace...
In such situations those who deal in reality and facts don't do well, take America under Trump as an example, unless they have the permission of the powerful. Perhaps they are seeking to soften the anticipated blow, because it's just a matter of time until the ground dries out in Ukraine and the troops are trained on the new equipment, which is still pouring in. The Europeans are digging in for a possible long haul and would like to avoid it with a quick victory and peace, now that they are resolved to finish off Russia militarily in Ukraine, if they do not leave.

Looks like someone had they light turned on in the BS brigade.....

seems like they misjudged the unity of the west......
"But for that (to win) we must organize ourselves"

The speaker was telling the truth about the situation but claimed that losing would worse than the disaster to the people of Russia currently unfolding in Ukraine. All of the armor and trained troops were wasted in disorganized carnage last year. So, now is the time to get organized?

Who was he talking to? The Russian public, whose sons are being sent ill prepared to die on the front lines? Or to the police who are Putin's sheepdogs? All they can do is maintain order and cut members from the herd to be sent out for slaughter. Or to the ruling elite? The ones who made the mess and show no signs of recognizing that last year was a disaster. They didn't misjudge the West, they misjudged their own capability and ability to reason.

Or was he talking just to himself? It certainly wasn't the people on the show. They were looking away with a look of bored disagreement.

I have worked with and come to like many people from Russia and they are not Orcs. They are a loving caring people. When he says "we must organize ourselves", he's making a demand to those people that I met to lay down their lives for the people who brought this disaster down on their heads.

This hurts my heart.

i noticed the audience too, and it did look like they were bored of him already, even the head numb nut. tbh honest idk who he was aserting to or talking to, we can speculate, maybe to the masses, maybe to the military, maybe to pooty himself

IMHO this war shouldn't have never happened in any way shape or form. It remind me of what someone said.."there are no winners in war, and the only loser are the ones who are caught in between"

in my college years, my next door neighbor was from Russia (st peterburg to be exact) he was an awesome guy, the last time i talked with him he was heading back, keep in mind i'm 50 now so he would be close to my age now and with all these mobilization make me wonder if he got sent or did he make out.....he was a human being not an orc....

what weird, there is a lot of talk of russia rising up........and with all these mobilization who is gonna rise up, all the young, all the people are getting killed and for what....Putin soldification of a facist russia????

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.
~ A. Lincoln to congress in 1862

A good quote to match the one from that Russian speaker. But look at the differences. "we must think anew, and act anew", which the US most certainly was doing in the form of massive expansion of the means of production of arms and machinery that could be used to make war. Compare that to the sorry state of Russia's war economy and the backward looking claim that all they needed to do was become organized. His words are hollow compared to Lincoln's vigorous call for people to think anew.

I think you are OK. It's just I was going over the war casualties. The reality clashes with posts I see here.

To Ukraine this is a nightmare that has no end in sight. Same with Russia in a different way. I'm completely supportive of US siding and helping Ukraine. I don't have any answers, just damn, this sucks.
I don't even know what a "orc" is?,and on Feb 24,2022 I think most of us thought it'd be a done deal in less than a month,If Russia lagged in tech by 20yrs,they'd still have capabilities a decade more advanced than the precision the West showed in 1990.Incredibly when the bear resembled it's WW2 self more than a modern military and the Ukranians punched way above the weight we anticipated our elation distracted us from the catastrophe in the making. One yr, later and carnage not seen in 3/4 of a century in Central Europe,w/a rubic's cube of interests, historical issues, and dangerous scenarios up to and including nuclear weapons use to ponder, don't know what the "end game" is or even if the skill/will to get there even exists.

Orcs are from Tolkien. They’re of disputed origin, but they are evil, ugly and cannibalistic. They’re the backbone of Sauron’s armies.

Some call the current Russian soldiers orcs. The implication is that they are subhumans fit only to ruin what others have made. It’s the old wartime bigotry in a new cloak.

The new "Hun" which was one of several nicknames the Brits had for the Germans. Was there an equivalent term in German for the Brits in WW2 when their cities were being destroyed in what Goebbels characterized as "terror bombings"? Carpet bombing cities seeking to create firestorms.

I found myself reading about Russian orcs (orks). Found a funny comic but couldn't cut and paste for some reason.

He is a chronic alcoholic who always gets plastered when he drinks, and he drinks all the time...
Many alcoholics do and I never understood how you can get crazy on just a few drinks or even one. With narcotics you're always chasing that first time which causes increased use. Not so with alcoholics.

Does anyone know why it only takes a little bit with alcoholism?
