wtf kind of a test was that?
i read the story, sounds like a retribution kind of move to me...i can't imagine what useful information that test would have provided.
They have to deal with the EU and other countries too, we will just gang up on them. Some countries want to protect their citizens from lies that are used to murder them for profit or other purposes.

Cruelty is the point of conservativism these days and a false choice presented to people. When Jacques Cartier first hit the grand banks in the early 1600's his ship was driven back by the abundance of cod fish and bushel baskets dropped over the side would come up come up full of cod, long before there was a seal hunt. Human overfishing destroyed the northern cod stocks that employed the people on the east coast of North America for hundreds of years, not seals and there would be no market for their products with boycotts. The seals depend on the sea ice and the polar bears depend on them and the seasonal sea ice is rapidly disappearing along with their habitat.

In Canada there are other options 2/3 of the country is left of center by Canadian standards and those who don't like Trudeau would likely vote for the NDP or another party than the Tories. The liberals are in a minority government with the socialistic NDP keeping them there and we've had our best governments when they hold the liberals by the balls. Pierre pisspot is just a placeholder for when DoFo makes his run for PM, DoFo is a Herman Goering clone, looks like him and acts like him! His brother Rob was mayor of Toronto and a protype for Trump, we pioneered lunatics in politics. It was like we launched sputnik with Rob and you Americans had to show off and go to the fucking moon with Trump!

I have no idea what that means.

I assume it's about Pierre Poilievre, but net approval compared to what? Was the polling done by a credible group? How far out is the election?
Pierre is not popular in most places, into negative numbers, as for the pollster I dunno much, it was an approval poll with no comparison. The election has to happen with in 5 years of the last one, but the government could call one when it wants, then 60 days of election, they have a minority government now and a non-confidence vote could do it too, the NDP can force an election if they want to.

Very credible pollster(slight conservative bias, but accurate). Pierre is a donkey, an unoriginal donkey. Chrystia Freeland will be the next Prime Minister of Canada, PP couldn't hold a candle to Ms. Freeland.

Gotta say I agree with harvesting seals. Big problem for the salmon on the West Coast too. Even 30 years ago when we used to fish the Harrison River where it meets the Fraser 50 miles from the ocean there would be a few seals hanging around. They've decimated some salmon populations along the coast of Vancouver Island and the mainland as well. The salmon farms, that farm east coast salmon in the giant net pens, haven't helped either but they are being phased out finally. Seals will rip the nets open releasing thousands of non-indigenous salmon into the sea that can breed with the indigenous salmon and spread disease also screwing things up.

Sure seals are cute but so are baby cows and people still enjoy their veal not even thinking about the miserable short lives those calves live in plastic bubbles so they can't move around and their flesh stays nice and tender.

I sure as hell don't want Little PP to be in power but I wish the Liberals weren't so damn woke sometimes.

Knocking the seal population down would create many jobs and allow the cod to return creating even more jobs and both industries could help feed a lot of hungry people . . .and pets!

That sounds...wrong, somehow, but i don't know enough about the situation to make an informed decision...seems like the seals and the salmon coexisted for a long fucking time before people started fucking things up, sure it's the seals fault?

It's not the seals fault as when cod or salmon on either coast were abundant there was plenty of fish to support what was an even huger population of seals. Then us greedy humans came along and screwed up the balance of nature. The cod fishery on the east coast was plundered by not only Canadians but by a lot of foreign ships, mainly French, as there are some French-owned islands off the east coast so they used that island's territorial waters to send huge cannery ships from France to rape the fishery.

The fishery has been closed to all commercial fishing for something like 20 years now putting a lot of east coasters out of work. At about the same time the seal hunt was demonized and mainly shut down so the seal population has shot up. The cod are still not recovering and the seals are a factor in their lack of recovery.

As to the salmon on both coasts the seals congregate around the mouths of rivers used by the salmon for spawning and plunder the fish returning. They tend to rip the guts out for the rich organ meats then go on to the next fish discarding the rest. Also plunder the young salmon as they leave their natal rivers and congregate around the deltas for some time becoming acclimated to the salt water before heading off for a few years depending on species. There are hundreds of fish supporting rivers and creeks all up and down the coast and around the larger islands that only support small populations of salmon of distinctive genetic heritage that have been and continue to be lost.

There are 5 specie of salmon on the West Coast. Chinook, (Kings), Coho, (Silvers), Pink, Chum and Sockeye. There is also the Steelhead which is a direct cousin of the East Coast salmon and like it does not die after spawning but can return to the ocean afterwards to repeat the cycle coming back larger each time which makes for some huge trophy fish prized by anglers such as myself when I still lived out in BC. Huge tourism dollars are spent by other fish mad sorts that come from all over the world to have a shot at fish like that. That market is dwindling due to salmon population collapse on both coasts due in large part to mismanagement by the dept's of fisheries and oceans on both coasts.

I still dream of moving to Campbell River on Vancouver Island to go fishing with my cousin Bob and would be happy to end my days with a rod in my hands and a fish on the line.

Definition of a fisherman. A jerk on one end of the line waiting for a jerk on the other end! :D
