How long does a 6" Carbon filter last you?

Lots of people run too fast of a fan for their filter. I hooked up a 5x5 and 4x4 to a 8” 40lb filter with a 6” reducer then the fan and then a Y splitter outside the tent blowing through it. Perfect negative air and no smell for a year or two.
Yes I was just about to post the same thing, get a bigger 8" filter with a 6" reducer. I had to run mine outside the tent on the floor because its about 19kg and too heavy to hang along with the weight of a se7000. But it's got so much charcoal it's going to work for years, and scrub more odour.

The first one I bought on ebay was junk after the first 2 grows, but I've been using an iPower 4" filter since then, which was around 2 years ago.
I've used it for 6 grows. Still currently in use. I just got the mars hydro fan & filter kit last year when I decided to run another tent. That one works pretty good too. On it's 3rd flower run now.

I use a 6” ac infinity inline fan that has been running nonstop for the past 3 years.. I have it in my attic right where a vent is (in the middle of the roof line). I have a 4x5 and a 2x4 space connected to it with a 6” and 4” ac infinity filter inside the tents. I replace them once a year and seems to do the trick. Sometimes I get a wiff outside but it’s for a split second.
Yea their fan/controller is great so far. Do you run ducting from your grow room all the way into the attic, or is your tent in the attic? I'm thinking of switching rooms & I guess I'd have to cut a hole in ceiling to run exhaust ducting up there. Interesting.

Ok I'll keep that in mind next run. I do run my 6" AC inline fan from 5-7 constantly.

got the same here.if you are getting smell then your tent is not pressurized. air is leaking somewhere before the carbon filter.my tent is like a plastic bottle when you suck air out of it.when i close the zipper
So is mine, I mean it's really sucked in big time. I guess there could be holes/leaks but there's negative pressure. Not really sure why the smell is in my bedroom so bad. Usually (last run) the smell would dissipate 1hr after closing the tent. Now it's sticking around 24-7. Also I could smell it outside, so the filters definitely done.

What you could do if you get a better filter is keep your old one and run it during veg, or even no filter at all in veg if the odor is not bad. Then just throw your good one on during flower when they start to stink. It will prolong the life of it and scrub the air better when you most need it.

That's exactly what I was doing, only hooking it up at start of flower. Maybe I got a used filter? Still, excellent idea & I'll continue doing that thanks!

Humidity has an impact on how well your filter works…. Above 80% filters won’t work
Interesting. humidity has never gone above 70% & I have a dehumidifier if it ever does. Good to know though thank you!

Careful venting into your attic. The high humidity can cause mold fast and rot your beams out. Only vent outside or somewhere inside and run a dehumidifier. I use my grows to heat my house (partially) in the winter. Just have to keep dehumidifiers running or else the moisture buildup gets pretty bad and the windows condense up. No bueno

It hasn't even occurred to me to get a fan controller to slow the canfan a little.
Good advice, me thinks.

A trick the guy at the hydro store where I bought my 6x24", 600cfm Can-Lite filter was to buy a much bigger filter than you need then wrap the bottom half with plastic wrap. After so many grows and you start smelling the stank unwrap the back end and wrap the front.

I still haven't used my filter yet and it's been 5 or 6 years since I got it so might just sell it. Sealed in its own wrap so still as good as new and was $170.

I always run my 400cfm, 6" fan at half speed so that filter should last 10 average small grows for me if I did use it. Might yet but I'm in the boonies and now that grows are legal I'm not worried about the smell at all.

:peace:
