My mechanical timers work great. Maybe the kind you bought weren't rated for enough wattage! Anyway, like they said above, you can just switch it to how you want it when the clocks switch. plants won't care.

I don't care for mechanical timers either, so I use a $15 digital version. You're more likely to screw up than a mechanical timer though.

Mechanical “ peg “ style timers are a good choice as they can set 15 minute increments rather easy.

Changing cycle start times shouldn’t be an issue - as long as you don’t keep playing with time setting.

Daylight savings time makes zero difference - as dialing a simple hour’s difference is not an issue.

i thought you needed a fangled timer costing a arm and leg for led
£4 from BnQ .
Any old timer will work with LED.
There's no surge like with HPS

Also , why the weird timings.

Usually 8 till 8 is the coolest time of the day to have lights on.

so what you are saying is theres more chance of me screwing up by turning the light on than a mechanical timer not not turning em on

I couldn't imagine a life without grow room automation. Especially with timers.
Anything running hid or over 500w gets a hardwired intermatic analog 'dial style' timer. Little lights any decent dial timer will do. As long as it's rated for it.

id say youve had a bad run on timers or theres somthing wrong with your electrical supply, sounds like your getting power surges or spikes, not good . cant see how timers can go wrong with led

Electrical frequency 50 or 60Hz can miss up timers, I used a50Hz timer on a 60Hz system, and it made it turn faster making the hour like 40 minutes instead of 60.

wow, you guy's have so many problems to deal with, we ocassionaly get a spike, but ive never had a timer pop or stop working , only through looseing or breaking the tiny plastic prongs on the 15 min pin timers, baught a digital timer and never looked back, you get what you pay for these days. for us in the uk at least

I’ve never had an issue with analog peg style timer. Just a thought on the light goes on but doesn’t shut off part. May be a dumb thought but I know my analog timer has a button to bypass the timer part if its not on timer mode its just plugged in as normal and wouldn’t go off unless you turn it of at the fixture. Just a thought
