when i went and talked to the grow shop guy,you can buy one thats do it all but cost more,i got one electric ph and one tds, they were like 80 dollars each cause i went one up from the cheapest ones just because i have to drive along way to get back to refund if their was a problem they have worked flawless for a year now.

Depends on how exact you need, or want, to be. Strips are fine for general testing and are very cheap. But for some reason you want a special ph, then yeah, you need to get a meter. Just remember, cheaper ph meters tend to break down after a year and need to be replaced. The more expensive ph meters will probably last you quite a while but even those still have a shelf life. If you don't need to be exact I would suggest staying with the strips.

Are the Hannas better than the Milwaukees? Milwaukee link in the post above.
Hanna Link;http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370124483715
My guess is you'll find the crowd here pretty well split between Hanna and Milwaukee. I've never heard any good reasons why one is better than the other- they both generally do the job - just personal preference.

The one you linked to would be an excellent choice in my opinion, just check around and make sure you are getting the lowest price. My only other advice is to make sure whatever you get is waterproof.

Just bought the Milwaukee.... I saw they were going for as much as $200 at other sources. Thanks for the input.
