I haven't read all of it but this book comes highly recommended by many growers, especially soil and organic but the info is good regardless

I would stick a finger straight down so maybe a little more than 2", but imo go by that and weight feel and look of the plant, those soil moister probes are not terrible also but not all are accurate

Based on what you said, it gets dry before plant signs show slightest signs and the 2x2 plant went into shock overnight and lost half of its leaves. I just don’t know where to start with research, depends what soil you are working with and what is in it.

I haven’t even tried to read anything but was hoping a grower on RIU with sensable credibility could suggest something like you just did, I will start reading right away.

My 1x1 was in a half gal, now into 1 gal 3 weeks ago. Expecting to top dress every 30 days, so should look hungry soon. It was always on a fast dryback interval due to small pot. It is stretching crazy, daily. Strange it is 60 days old almost and barely starting mid flower.

Here is a pic of the 2x2 plant when it was still building a system and dry back was ok and even suggested. Hoping to get it to that health point again before pistols show so I can flip right away.

Going to try watering less and more, but how do you know you aren’t getting dry spots towards the bottom, I was watering til water barely came out each pot drain hole and stop. If a little more comes out, I pour back into pot.

I appreciate the help, both plants were running on thin ice but luckily the photo period 2x2 is photo so I can take time to correct stuff.

I top dressed the 2x2 plant with about an inch of ffof on surface. I can’t find via search how much to add. Watering more frequently.

Tried to understand your watering schedule but it sounds too confusing.
I wait till the pot dries out and slight droop before watering again its that simple Some people like to water more often but Ive found better results overall with letting them dry out a little before watering again. Keeping it constantly wet invites other problems for me. Drought stress has also been found to increase cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis.
The twisted growth may be from bugs. Did you check for bugs? See pic below

No bugs, checked up close with a loop. The 1x1 watering was all over the place due to small half gal pot and then it is up potted to 1 gal 3 weeks ago. Was watering every other day, then every 3-4 days and now back to every 2-3 days. I think the burns are slowing down.

The 2x2 was 2 weeks solo cup and 5 weeks to date in 1.4gal. Watered every 3 - 4 days, then suggested to water less and then my leaves died. So I was watering sooner due to that and that is the jist of it.

Just re read the question, I am feeding just ffof and tap water with top dressing monthly with more ffof. Tap water .6 EC and high ph l, have not checked but it is probably 8.5-9.5. I ought to check, I am just lazy.

Time to flip! aaaand am I ready? I think so. New growth lookin good. Top dressed 5 days ago, is it too soon to ask how it is looking and if I can flip to flower? What about my auto in mid flower? I see more spots arising and about to top dress today as I think I read some where to top dress a week before you think you need it.

Been watering both every 2nd day, keeping it on the wetter side. If you are following my journals, look away! This is content for fridays! haha. Took a clone which would be my first clone ever. Last time I complicated it too much and had to stop growing by time I realized what to do.

Almost a week later and more if to include time before that when issues started showing, it looks great! Loving soil for its low maintenance. For sure likes to be kept at certain moisture level, it is growing perfectly. Loving the healthy white roots popping out, they must be happy in there.

I think it looked overfed as a young veg plant for growing into such a large hot nutrient loaded soil pot because the color of leaves are right where I want it with just top dressing. It is day 2 flower and pistols are coming fast, this one will be a quick switcher I think.

As for the 1x1, not sure if it got better or worse but the leaves stay perky. Looking over fed in the sugar leafs but it was almost time to top dress. My confidence is building!

Shoot, I think the auto is going through another wave of dying leaves, the sugar leafs are dying out too now. Not sure if will make it to harvest. Watering every 2nd day. Wondwring if need to water daily or add some one part maxi to charge it up.

Things keep flip flopping between these two grows were now the auto is suffering but the photoperiod seems figured out. Is it wind burn or light burn too? I just don’t know. Having hard time showing pics of the new areas but its there, just looks worse daily suddenly again.

And what is the PH if it’s as high as you stated way back that could be a major cause of a lot of issues. The plants need certain PH to uptake nutrients so if the PH is way out of whack they may be taking up a lot of what they don’t need and not getting what they do need. The top sugar leafs look really dark green and that’s a sign of way too much N. I think you’re to far along to fix it at this point but hopefully the next run will be better.
I like your little setup and if you use coco DTW style I think you will do much better I find soil hard for myself to grow in.

Let me check. Yea I noticed that after top dressing thinking they need to be every 30 days ish and did it early thinking it would make things worse if it was on verge of running out of nutes.

I was wondering if transplanting to gallon from half gallon led to unpopulated zones of roots so it took longer to deplete nutes, earlier than I thought perhaps. My other grow is going great if I am not speaking too soon so I am still hopeful of soil but perhaps this challenge limits the leaves to where I have less slack like it is now.

It is 6.62PH and 4.82EC and tap is .6 EC and 8.28PH. Wow glad I checked, for sure too high EC though idk what the standard is. Upon looking again I think I may get lucky with a immature harvest used for edibles.

What ever you think I should do, I was just using the style of tap water and top dressing though upon start of flower I budged into a tip to up pot because half gal is small which would also make sense why this is harder.

The 2x2 just checked runoff it is 4.16EC PH 5.63. It looks great though despite the auto doing poorly. Thinking of watering daily. My tap water did not test too bad to not want to use it but I don’t know much on soil, trying to read much as I can.

I think I can push this one through and get something, first buds are formed and stacking, touched one by mistake and finger smelled dank as heck. Id love to get anything out of this, been a while since I harvested anything and would give me some practice before I start yielding more again.
