I just noticed that there is some mold on top of my soil! What can I do to kill it/make it go away? It's not EVERYWHERE but there is a considerable amount on the top of my soil.
So if I let the top of the soil dry out completely that will kill the mold?Let the top of your soil dry out. You are keeping it too moist so mold can grow.
Alright thanx, so by the time it takes to totaly dry out the mold won't do any damage to my plant will it? There's nothing wrong with my plant right now it's just some mold on the top of the soil. Its should. Once its dried scrape off 1 inch of soil and add new.
Is this like salts forming from the nutes/soil?? Because I also heard it was bad. Don't mean to sound like a noob here but this is the first problem I've had with an otherwise flawless grow. hahamight not be mold sometimes the stuff on top of the soil crystals with age it happend r=to me a few times and it wasnt mold just the stuff in soil was crystlizing
could be mold, could be salts, its not always caused by overwatering, you can also get this from not enough air circulating or the plant being busy and or tall and the environment down there just being dark and lonely... let it dry out and scrape it offAny other advice or tips on getting rid of mold on top of soil? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Yeah I'm pretty sure it might be from not getting enough air. That particular plant doesn't have a fan blowing directly on it. Thanks.could be mold, could be salts, its not always caused by overwatering, you can also get this from not enough air circulating or the plant being busy and or tall and the environment down there just being dark and lonely... let it dry out and scrape it off
Yeah thanks for the help, I'm pretty sure it's not salts because they aren't dissolving. I am going to get a fan to blow directly on the soil/stem (I don't on that particular plant and that is the only one that it is happening on) and let it dry up good to get that mold out of there.yes if you are growing in soil it should definately be left to dry out the top 1.5-2 inches (depending on the root ball your werkin with) between waterings this will prevent the mold and fungus gnats from moveing in aswell you really dont want those guys in your grow space they produce little worms that eat at your roots
and also too much water doesnt allow the salts to form in the soil and thats what the roots use to eat there nutes so if you see nute salts forming on top of your soil just pour a little straight tap water on them and they should dissolve
its a weed that can grow in the harshest conditions remember it doesnt rain outside for some weeks at a time and lot of plants are still producing...hope i could help
peace.
Thanx.....sounds good man best of luck
