I agree with you to a point. I would prefer that Trump be beaten at the polls. I doubt his staunch MAGA would accept the result if he lost. Their ideology will only die with their last breath. For the rest of the country, the majority who rejected Trumpism in 2018, 2020 and again in 2022, their participation to help our democratic system overcome the Trumpist infection again through the ballot box once again in 2024 would demonstrate that our democracy is strong and refute those inside and outside of our country who claim it is failing. Their movement can't win as long as our democracy remains strong. So, yes, I support letting Trump run again so he can be publicly beaten once more.

But I also support our Constitution which clearly says people who take office after an oath to defend the Constitution and go on to attempt to overthrow it are banned from office. If the courts decide according to our Constitution that Trump can't even run for office then I support that.

Depending on what the courts decide we could have it both ways. Trump could be allowed to run but prevented from taking office if he won. But he won't win, so we can each have our cake and eat it too.
While I won’t say that the republic is failing, since that sounds like the fascists’ save-America cant, I will say it’s fragile right now. I’ll change my mind when shockingly illiberal laws are no longer passed and then upheld in appellate court. I’d also like to see the rich taxed and, where appropriate, prosecuted.
The idea of gutting Social Security and Medicare needs to be made unspeakable again.
Finally, I believe that one of the linchpins of our brutality to the poor resides with the insurers and healthcare companies. A prescription for a month’s worth of a drug recently brought to market usually exceeds $1000, which not only fattens pharma execs but gives insurers the pretext to deny coverage or charge a fortune for a basic plan, or both.
Reaganomics must be expunged for the disease it is.
When I see these things begin to happen, I’ll unclench. In the meantime, I’ll vote in the manner likeliest to advance the program.

Colorado secretary of state calls Trump a ‘liar,’ vows to see ballot lawsuit through
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold (D) called former President Trump a “liar,” after he suggested a recent push to use the 14th Amendment to keep him off the ballot in the state was “election interference.”
“Trump is a liar with no respect for the Constitution,” Griswold said in an interview on MSNBC on Saturday.

“To say that a section of the 14th Amendment is election interference and considering how to uphold the Constitution is election interference is un-American,” she continued. “We know that the former president is a liar who will do everything he can to hold onto power.”

Griswold and Trump were both named in a recent lawsuit filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which argues that the former president is disqualified from the 2024 ballot under the 14th Amendment’s Section 3 — also dubbed the insurrection clause.

The Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group asked the court to find Trump’s alleged actions related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol disqualifying and to bar Griswold from allowing him on the 2024 Republican primary ballot or any futures ballots in the state.

Griswold added on Saturday that she plans to “see this litigation through,” noting that she thinks “it’s good for a court to weigh in” on the issue.
“Section 3 of the 14th Amendment clearly lays out in very clear terms that if someone swears to uphold the Constitution, they are disqualified from holding office if they go and engage in insurrection, rebellion, or aid or comfort to the enemies of the Constitution,” she said.

“And Donald Trump incited an insurrection, and there are big constitutional questions around that provision as to whether he is disqualified from the Colorado ballot,” Griswold continued. “So, we’ll see this litigation through, and ultimately I think it’s important for a court to weigh in to provide guidance.”

Beau reaching morons who are lied to and can't figure it out, his looks and accent attract a lot of republicans who he proceeds to talk sense to. You can tell he is reaching them because the volume of their questions has increased steadily over time. He has almost a million subscribers and does better than many network news and opinion shows.

Let's talk about Biden, recommendations, and information....

Pence vows to ‘clean house’ at Justice Department if elected, citing trust issues
Former Vice President and 2024 candidate Mike Pence said he would “clean house” in federal law enforcement if he was elected president.

“The American people have lost confidence in the Department of Justice. And if I’m president of the United States on day one, we’re going to clean house on the top floor of the Department of Justice and bring in a whole new group of people,” Pence told The New York Post.

Alongside a wave of new hires at the Justice Department, Pence said the first person he would fire would be FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Pence has previously questioned Justice Department investigations into former President Trump and said that discussions on whether Trump should be pardoned are “premature.”

“The President is entitled to his day in court, he’s entitled to bring a defense, and I want to reserve judgment until he has the opportunity to respond,” he told The Wall Street Journal this week.

Trump was arraigned on 37 felony counts at a Miami courthouse Tuesday alleging that he mishandled classified documents. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Pence also signaled that his relationship with Trump may have faltered since they both left office, telling The New York Post that Trump “was” his friend. Pence faced criticism of the former president’s supporters after he refused to stop the certification of the election during the Jan. 6 insurrection in 2021.
Pence isn’t watching his step: he - of ALL people - should be keenly aware that TFFG IS *NOT* THE PRESIDENT. Mike…either blow him or stop going over there

Eastman says Supreme Court decision makes argument ‘murkier’ in 2024
John Eastman, the lawyer who pushed a legal theory in his bid to overturn the 2020 election, said the Supreme Court’s decision in a major elections case will muddy the waters for any legal challenges that emerge from the 2024 election.
In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court rejected a bid to give state legislatures broad authority to draw congressional maps and regulate federal elections, effectively declining to endorse the “independent state legislature” theory pushed by Eastman.

Advocates of the legal theory argue that the Elections and Electors Clauses of the U.S. Constitution give state lawmakers the authority to regulate federal elections without any checks and balances from state courts, governors, or other bodies with legislative power, including constitutional conventions or independent commissions, according to the Brennan Center For Justice.
Eastman said the Supreme Court’s decision will allow courts to weigh in as part of “their normal exercise of judicial review.”

“Chief Justice Roberts says, ‘As long as it doesn’t transgress the ordinary bounds of judicial review, such that the court irrigate to themselves the power vested in the state legislators.’

“So what does that mean?” Eastman continued. “Particularly if a state court is interpreting a fairly vague hortatory clause, like we shall have free and fair elections. Can the court just say ‘well that just means we are going to allow for absentee voting if a legislature hasn’t authorized it, because we don’t think it will be free and fair otherwise’?”

Eastman said Justice Clarence Thomas’s dissent highlights the problems that this decision is now going to cause.
“This is a litigation bonanza without a clear answer,” Eastman said.

In terms of how the Court’s decision will impact the 2024 election, Eastman said there is going to be lots of litigation.
“We’ve now engaged in what I think is commonly called law fair for these elections,” he said. “There will be lots of lawsuits brought ahead of time to alter election laws, or weaken election laws that the state legislatures put in place to protect against risk of fraud.”

In addition, Eastman said there will be changes made “that appear to have partisan advantages,” saying that is a “huge danger.”
“It is particularly the case when people are lining themselves into different modes of voting,” Eastman said. “If everybody equally distributes themselves between in-person and absentee voting for example, changing the rules doesn’t have an effect on the outcome.
“But if two-thirds of Democrats are voting absentee and two-thirds of Republicans are voting in person, if you loosen the rules on one rather than the other you benefit one of the parties.”

Eastman embraced the theory as part of his argument that former Vice President Mike Pence could have used his power to refuse to certify the 2020 presidential election.
John Eastman is a small man’s idea of a small man…who smells of bullshit

Trump: 'Rigging the Election' by Indictments 'Won't Hold Up'
As liberal media blares headlines about the use of the 14th Amendment to bar a president from running in an election, former President Donald Trump struck back at President Joe Biden's abuse of power and "election interference."

"The Fake Indictments and lawsuits against me, 8 of them all come out of the Biden Campaign for purposes of Election Interference," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "This is their new way of Rigging the Election, and it won't hold up.

"The Fascists & Marxists are destroying our once great Country but, WE WILL WIN & MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

Trump railed on Biden's abuse of the American justice system against his chief political rival, warning American politics are being dropped to all-time lows and leaving the Republican Party no choice but to respond in kind.

"The Crooked Joe Biden Campaign has thrown so many Indictments and lawsuits against me that Republicans are already thinking about what we are going to do to Biden and the Communists when it's our turn," Trump added in another Truth Social post.

"They have started a whole new Banana Republic way of thinking about political campaigns. So cheap and dirty, but that's where America is right now. Be careful what you wish for!"

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., told ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday that he believes the federal government could use the 14th Amendment to remove Trump from the ballot in 2024.

"In my view, the attack on the Capitol that day was designed for a particular purpose at a particular moment, and that was to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power of as is laid out in the Constitution," Kaine said. "So I think there's a powerful argument to be made."

During an interview on X with Tucker Carlson, former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund, who was in charge of Capitol security Jan. 6, 2021, said that for 71 minutes, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., did not approve of sending in the National Guard.

The weaponization of justice and political attacks have been extended to deep-blue districts run by RINOs (Republicans in name only) or "incompetent prosecutors" who have run on a platform to "get Trump," the former president lamented.

"Has anyone checked the background of Fani Willis, who lets Murderers go free to roam the streets of Atlanta and KILL, but wastes time, energy, and money on LETS GET TRUMP, who has done NOTHING wrong," Trump added in a third Truth Social post. "RINO Governor Brian Kemp has lost control of violent crime in Atlanta, and Fulton County as a whole. To walk the streets is a death sentence, it has NEVER been worse, yet he wants to protect this incompetent prosecutor. Number 1 in violence per capita in U.S.

"Sad days for the Great State of Georgia!"
*SO* EFFING SICK of this agent of corruption & destruction, this wicked fucking fool, this son of a bitch….

There ya go folks, greed, hate and stupidity all lined up on one side and patriots on the other. The yokels don't care if the rich don't pay taxes, they just want to "get" somebody, those evil people they told them about on foxnews and other rightwing outlets and echoed by their politicians using the rhetoric of destruction. If they march with nazi's they advocate death camps and "racial cleansing", people in a conspiracy don't need to know the details of every part, just the overall plan, that's the legal standard too. For poor and working people to vote for more corporate tax cuts is to have them brainwashed to a pathological level by culture wars and bullshit. Some people actually believe Biden will limit them to 2 beers a week and federal thugs will kick down their door and take their beer. Somebody told them this and they were not only stupid enough to believe it, but disposed to by the same people who told them Hilary eats babies for breakfast every day.

Con the base and serve the rich is the motto of the GOP and they are a grifter magnet, as well as one for idiots.

Reacting to reports that contributions to Republican candidates are way down and this report of yet another proposed tax cut for the wealthy. One follows the other. Republicans are pandering for corporate campaign contributions without a thought given for how to pay for it. How does the Republican Party keep its image of fiscal responsibility? Not by doing responsible things. That is certain.

They are desperate and Trump is gobbling up a lot of small donor money that house candidates depend on and many state organizations are broke, the more maga the more broke. The senate is also not doing well and if Mitch dies, they could be in trouble with big money there, he brought in a lot for the senate candidates. I think Trump will end up bankrupt, again, before going to prison and his legal expenses will gobble up any money he raises. The best hope is if Trump is disqualified, he leds an ego driven campaign to have himself written in on the ballot during the general election and if he is not in prison by then, it would not be hard to convince him of it, especially if he won the GOP primary before disqualification!

Federal court denies Alabama request for redistricting pause: It’s ‘likely to lose on appeal’
A three-judge panel Monday denied Alabama’s request to pause the decision that struck down their new congressional map last week.

Alabama submitted a new map after the Supreme Court blocked the previous map in June for likely violating the Voting Rights Act. A trio of federal judges ruled last week that the new map fell short of complying with the Supreme Court’s directive, meaning that a court-appointed official may instead draw the redistricting lines for the 2024 cycle.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office said that it planned to appeal the case back to the Supreme Court. The state filed the motion to stay the federal court’s recent ruling Monday so that it could appeal its case before the new map would be redrawn by a court official.

The judges wrote that Marshall was “likely to lose on appeal” in its order later Monday denying the motion.

“The Secretary has lost three times already, and one of those losses occurred on appeal,” the judges wrote. “We have twice enjoined a plan that includes only one majority-Black or Black-opportunity district on the grounds that it likely dilutes the votes of Black Alabamians in violation of Section Two of the Voting Rights Act.”

The initial map had included one majority-Black district out of seven total districts, even though more than a quarter of the state population is Black.

The judges also argued that a stay order is not in the public interest of Alabama.

“The Plaintiffs — like all Alabamians — already have endured one congressional election in this census cycle that the Secretary administered under an unlawful map. We see no reason to allow that to happen again,” the judges wrote.

The judges noted that Alabama also admitted to falling short of what the Supreme Court was asking for.

“We repeat that we are deeply troubled that the State enacted a map that the Secretary readily admits does not provide the remedy we said federal law requires,” they wrote. “And we are disturbed by the evidence that the State delayed remedial proceedings but did not even nurture the ambition to provide that required remedy.”

“Under these circumstances, we cannot understand why it would be a reasonable exercise of our discretion to order a stay pending the Secretary’s second appeal,” they added.

DeSantis says Republicans share blame for $32 trillion debt
GOP presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blamed both congressional Democrats and Republicans for the nation’s $32 trillion in national debt at a summit on Friday.

“I’m not going to let the Congress spend this country into oblivion any longer,” DeSantis said at the Concerned Women for America Summit in Washington, D.C.

“And let’s just be clear – we didn’t get $32 trillion in debt just because of one party. It’s been Republicans and Democrats in D.C. who have bankrupted this country,” he continued.

DeSantis recently called out both parties for adding to the national debt and singled out his opponent, former President Trump, in an interview with CBS News released Wednesday for his contribution to the debt while he was commander in chief. The national debt rose by $7.4 trillion throughout the duration of the Trump administration, from $19.5 trillion to $26.9 trillion, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center.

“Donald Trump added almost $8 trillion to the debt in four years. He ran saying he was going to eliminate the national debt,” DeSantis said during the interview. “He did make that promise, and they did the opposite.”
The Florida governor has also been an outspoken critic of the bipartisan debt ceiling deal President Biden signed into law in June, saying the U.S. is still “careening toward bankruptcy.”

“In Washington, D.C., they do these cycles to just get them through the next election. And that’s ultimately one of the reasons why they continue to fail,” DeSantis said at the time.

Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley gave similar remarks attributing the national debt to “our Republicans” at the first GOP primary debate last month.

“No one is telling the American people the truth. The truth is that Biden didn’t do this to us,” Haley said. “Our Republicans did this to us too. When they passed that $2.2 trillion COVID stimulus bill, they left us with 90 million people on Medicaid, 42 million people on food stamps. No one has told you how to fix it.”

Haley railed against her fellow Republican candidates, including former President Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and even DeSantis himself.

“You have Ron DeSantis, you’ve got Tim Scott, you’ve got Mike Pence — they all voted to raise the debt. And Donald Trump added $8 trillion to our debt. Our kids are never going to forgive us for this,” Haley said.
