Reviewing the footage I see a little worm on a leaf. It is a birch leaf skeletonizer and I'm not sure if they can damage my plants but I found it and fed it to a bird

I am not a caterpillar expert but some types those things are the worst. If you aren’t already I would spray BT bi weekly or more. Check the caterpillar thread in outdoor for more info. If you are or know already then my apologies but I believe this is one of your first grows and they will destroy all your best buds.

Yeah I'm not sure. They eat the birch leaves and when they are finished they drop a line and dangle down to the ground. I'm finding them suspended under my tree this week. I'm hoping that the one I found was just on its way down and got stuck up in my plants. I spend a weird amount of time just deeply poring over my plants and I haven't found any more.

Damn cold this morning, first time I've stepped out and seen my breath this season. Plants look right as rain though. Definitely confirms that I was 2 weeks too late planting my fall shiz although half of it didn't germinate (last time I'm trying outdoor sowing, I tell ya). My holy basil is only 2 inches tall. :(

Outdoors is a real Spartan learning curve. Your plants look good.

Husband wants to go back to Maine soon. FIL is approaching round 3 chemo and he wants to be there. As harvest approaches, I'm nervous. I'm watching a lot of harvest videos and it seems like I'm going to need to babysit a room full of jars to burp. I had not put much forward thought into exactly when harvest will be until this moment, I kinda wanted to just relax on it, watch and wait. What's the best educated guess for harvest? Is there any way to know?

You are still pretty far from harvest based on recent pix. Like end of next month. So you could go and return before you need to cut, maybe. As for curing, I think jars are going to be insufficient for your needs and drive you mad. Grove bags might be a smart buy for you, quite a few folks use them around here or you could ask @curious2garden about her new climate controlled curing chamber, but it probably lacks the capacity you need.

I had read about these for a while before trying, this is not by any means a new idea nor did I come up with the idea. I was tired of over drying and drying too quickly in the winter, then freaking out about mold in the summer. A google search will give lots of other ideas, but I get a lot of...

From what the guys/gals that already have and are using them, they hold 3/4 - 1lb dry. It can be built for under $300 or so. Of course, you would have to source the parts, fabricate, and dial it in before trusting the process so if you guys have to up and leave with the quickness, it may not be ideal. Grove bags are great as well. I think you still need to chop and dry most of the way before bagging them up, which you would have to do with jars as well. You just don't need to burp the Grove bags if you get the initial dry right.

Yup that's probably the other thing I need to do this weekend, suss out where the first dry is happening... got 3 choices, the sauna, garage, and last resort the guest bedroom...

old school (outdoors) was waiting until you saw 80% of the pistils turning color (orange/brown). > harvest
new school was waiting until all the pistils turned color. > harvest
new new school is waiting until pistils turn, then waiting to see 30% of the trichomes turning amber color. > harvest

outdoors throws in other factors:
insects, rain, frost, mildew, fungus, etc.

for outdoors, i am usually waiting until i see ALL the pistils turn color. wether or not a wait for the trichs to go 30% usually depends upon the weather. when the blazing hot summer is over here, it usually becomes rainy season. bud rot is a harsh reality. if the weather cooperates with me, i will let them run out to 30% amber. if not, i am fine with pistils all colored.

i think the biggest hurdle to growing isn't actually growing the plant... it's the drying and curing phase. you can completely f*ck up your entire grow if you screw up the dry/cure.
as i was typing out this response, i read your last post about where to dry. i would say pick a spot in the house where the temp and RH are the most consistent. i use my master bedroom closet. it is dark, and stays consistently cool(er) than the rest of the house. does it go the full recommended 12 days at 60F and 60RH? nope... but i found a way to make it all work. sometimes dropping them in the jars a bit early and go for a longer cure has to be the way.

Definitely check out Grove bags! No burping! They make them in 1 lb sizes, really made my life easier! And you can reuse them.

Mine never finishes the way I'd like. I'm on a budget so it gets cured in smaller food grade barrels. They're probably 20-25 gallons.
