Yes, yes, we can imagine what could be. My question is who? The few GOP leaders who aren't raving conspiracy theory dominionist fascist sociopaths are old and thinning their ranks through retirement. The GOP isn't going to go away, it's just going to become fringe because their ideology is based upon mythology and racism. People who are entering the voting population reject the authoritarian, uniculutural, white patrimony espoused by the GOP. This is not to say there is no room for fiscal conservativism in US politics, just saying that is not what the GOP are these days if they ever were. One thing to consider is there isn't one republican party, there is the RNC or federal party and 50 state parties and systems of elections. If factionalism and a schism happen to the GOP it will start with divergent state parties. Some parties will go crazier, especially in the south and those purple areas will grow more moderate. However, the democrats would be taxing the shit out of the rich and regulating their asses for a long time if they gain power and start addressing social problems like wealth imbalance. The rich greedy ones will need a political home and can afford to "renovate" a burned-out party house since it's the only house available right now, naturally such work begins with demolition.
You talk about raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens while I'm talking about what is. There is plenty of support for different political ideologies and plenty of new ideas that politicians are running on today. There are visionary leaders who are competing for top spots in government. There are more than two viable political factions competing with each other and cooperating both achieve their goals while making progress through legislation in Congress. That they call themselves Democrats doesn't mean their isn't diversity among them.
