this poppy recipe looks good

I'm so curious to try this as personal experiment. Would 100 seeds be a good starting point? Do I have to dry it? Do I have to boil it? What's the easiest way to extract and enjoy the final product. I feel growing them shouldn't be difficult.

If you are talking about consuming the seeds, forget 100, people use as much as a pound or two to make tea. And as I've posted, it's dangerous. You simply cannot tell how strong your tea is. People have died from poppy seed tea. Just don't do it.

Poppy tea is far far more predictable and one pod from a plant is about as potent as another. Pods from different plants of the same cultivar are pretty much the same as well.

Poppy straw tea is the easiest way.

I'm thinking of planting the seeds and growing them. I just don't know the easiest way to prepare them after harvest. I'm not familiar with what is poppy straw tea, but I'd love to learn more and how to get my hands on it :)

Currently been using Kratom White Maeng Da and it's nice, but I'd like to try this

Oh my, by all means try it. Go real light, how big were your poppies, what kind, when they were harvested and how much hooch?

Oh, and topical won't work at all, morphine contends with the brain not the nerves themselves. It changes how you perceive pain and is not an anesthetic.

Wait, I just noticed you have a liter. That's one pod per 10 MLS right? Unless your poppies are really small that's pretty strong I guess.

In my experience, two smallish pods of typical flower type plants is enough for a subtle relaxing feeling for six hrs or so.

Were I you I'd probably start with one or two mills. But never ever try to adjust the dose. If two mills don't work, just wait a day and then try four. If four doesn't go to six and then eight.

Like that. If I were you of course.

Tincture is nice because it is predictable. It will all be of identical strength. Contrary to individual poppies or..far worse, seed tea.
I found the bottle and it's only 750ml, but does say that there are 100 pods soaked therein.

The pods were dry in August, with the seeds removed, and varied in size. @Swag identified them as paeoniflorum. Here's a pic - still have an 11 litre ice cream pail full of pods and lots of seeds. The seeds look like a golf ball under 60x magnification.

Thnx for the dosing guideline and that it won't perform as a topical ointment.

Ok. First, the tiny black spots are opium. That usually indicates one of two things, either the pod was damaged near ripeness, say rain or handling or it is particularly potent.

The fact that the crown is not particularly upturned indicates that it was not quite ripe. I would guess that your tincture isn't particularly strong and it has a higher codine content and a lower morphine content. Just be aware of that and don't up your initial dose based on an anonymous dolt from the internet.

But don't be dissuaded if your first few tries don't yield much. Codine is pleasant too.

I find that the combination is the most dreamy. Lots of people look for the nod. I don't. I like the quiet lift, the social enhancement and the longevity of the feeling. A proper dose of tea lasts a long long time and tincture a bit less, I have no idea why.

There are a few downsides. The addiction potential of course but you won't get addicted from 750 MLS once a year. You may get the itches. I like it, most don't. You might just start scratching your legs or abdomen. It's because of a liberation of histamine. If you don't like it, take an antihistamine before hand and account for the possible drowsiness.

Finally there may be some constipation. Lasts maybe a day.

Oh, and beware of allergies. This is another reason for your small dose at first. Lots of people are mildly allergic to this stuff. I've never heard of anaphylaxis with small doses but if you get hives or your throat seems a little constricted, best you find a nice friend and give him a wonderful Christmas present.

Poppy straw tea is just the steeping of the stems and crushed pods in water with a squeeze of lemon. No hard boil, just bring it to a simmer and then let it soak for half an hour. Oh, and remove the seeds, it's an annoyance in the tea.

As I caution everyone, unless you have a good idea of how strong the pods and stems are, take it very slow and never ever titrate your dose. Three medium pods in two cups of water until you know and drink like a quarter cup. The tea will last in your fridge for a week
And the left over material will yield a second set of doses though they will be weaker.

Growing? Plant them, keep them watered, fertilize lightly early on and again when you see flowers.

If you want, wait until the crowns turn upward and then either harvest and dry them or milk them. Now you will never get in trouble growing a garden full of beautiful flowers BUT if there are visible score marks on the pods it's pretty obvious what you are doing. I score once, let the latex bead up on the pod, scrape the tar off and do it again in a few days.

Otherwise, wait til ripe, cut the plant down and dry it.
Now, milking them involves taking a sharp blade, a razor, an exact knife and slicing the outermost skin of the pod, horizontally about a third of the way around the center of the pod. If you go too deep the latex will flow into the pod rather than the outside. The white latex will ooze out and rapidly change color and coagulation. It will change from white to yellow orange to rusty brown and finally black. Scrape it onto a flat blade and collect it in a small bowl.

I find it easier to catch it at the Redish rust phase as it tends to curdle and does not smear on the surface.

You won't get much.

After it is fully dry you will have a tar like clump. There is not enough to wash so don't bother.

Smoking it involves vaporization. Do NOT touch the flame to it. Do not put it on top of your pot. You won't have much and flaming it will waste it.

Use a small metal bowl pipe and heat it from underneath or use the old aluminum foil method.

Finally, sadly I suppose, don't think about extraction. I know we all want to but it doesn't work. "Putty" (boiling down the stems and pods) will yield a psychoactive sloppy crud. You can eat it but it just doesn't smoke. There is a way to precipitate the alkaloids from strong tea but frankly, WHY? It is always of unknown potency, it is packed with narcotic precursors, you always lose a percentage and it is just too chemically (and I love chemicals). Also, you just don't have enough for such projects.

There is just no way to extract without a very good knowlege of chemistry and a host of lab gear and reagents.

Save the chemistry for dmt or San pedro

Alright this conversation is making me want to get my hands on some.
Well, there is only one thing I know of that is as pleasurable as smoking opium, it smells heavenly (who doesn't enjoy smoking flowers), it offers a variety of wonderful feelings, lucid colorful waking dreams, soft social engagements and a doting smooth drift.

Of course superior to even that is quaaludes.

Your dad is wrong, it is illegal to posess poppy straw. However, unless there are large fields of it or obvious score marks no one is going to bother you.

Poppy straw is the dried stems, leaves and pods. The pharma industry has found a way to simply harvest the entire plant, extract all the alkaloids, separate them and then convert them. However, thebaine is the most useful and most poppies grown for this market are bred for high production of this chemical.

Bro I wouldn't even be talking about it online. Not being a dick but all it takes is telling one person and then word spreads through rest of the community. I've heard that police are turning towards poppy grows now because of the fentanyl epidemic and people are growing poppys now to avoid it. Dont get me wrong would love to have a little patch of poppys but also I know I would be playing with fire then and at a point the patch would grow etc. Never had that problem with weed smoke about the same amount and never get that itch to need more or withdrawals. I know plenty of people in Humboldt county tried just doing poppy bulb teas and then moved on to heroin.

Most enforcement is either unaware or unwilling to enforce the law here. Grandma Ann puts a few dozen poppies in the front yard every year, they sell papaver somnuferum seeds in every Lowes and home depot, there are wild fields here and there. If you plant a quarter acre of them it might give the law reason for investigation. If, as I said, there is evidence of scoring, if you have some other indicators, pot smell from the house, long hair "hippy" types, that sort of thing.

But you should know that law enforcement ignorance goes two ways. I have seen several incidences of a very few plants raising alarms. One policw department claimed that the seizure of half a dozen plants prevented the manufacture of several kilos of "pure heroin" the poor person who was arrested caught hell.

After reading this whole thread at 2am I went out and bought these today. I went down the road of poppies and decided there’s not enough return and somehow ended up on San Pedro cactus. Mescaline seems interesting.IMG_9719.jpeg
