I've been adding glycene betatine to the container plants, really makes a difference in the heat.
Mostly it prevents wilting, but also helps prevent garden tomatoes and fruit from cracking. Almost never get cracked tomatoes anymore.
It's a beet extract that regulates water pressure in the cells, among other things.

I've came home on 104f on the porch, roots are bone dry, pot leaves are still praying and photo sythesizing.
This is used in Ag frequently on cherries, tomatoes, other thin skinned fruits. Apply once a month, foiliar or drench.

LALSTIM OSMO - Protects plant tissues against negative effects of environmental stresses

"Facilitates water uptake and retention by acting as an osmoprotectant and adjusts the osmotic balance inside plant cells and tissues exposed to hyperosmotic stress. It enhances photosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism, and translocation during environmental stresses such as heat, cold, drought, and salinity."
I've dabbled in, some say murdered, tomatoes most of my life and had never heard of this stuff.
Wow!
Thanks for the info, I'm getting some.

Basically, keeps the stoma open and the PS2 light channel from shutting down during stress.
Plant keeps pumping nutrients, exchanging gasses and photosynthesizing instead of shutting down from heat/ cold/ drought.
Also makes it more tolerant of higher salt or nutrient levels, similar to some kelp compounds.
Translocates thru the plant from foliar or drench very quickly.

Finally going to get some real rain, it might even make it down to SoCal by the end of next week.
Had my egga muffins for breakfast, my tummy is happy. Finishing my last cuppa Joe then holding the couch down "watching" football.

Here's the new plan for tomatoes. SIP pot loaded with miracle grow moisture control. Sun gold tomatoes plus a heat resistant variety yet to be determined. Glycine betaine treatments. I'm ready. Me and you mother nature, battle of the tomatoes!
Black Krim or Crimean tomatoes are very heat/ drought/ crack resistant.
They seem to come in 2 strains, the smaller, rounder ones are the OG.

Also, if you are growing tomatoes in a sip and keep it filled up, I can't imagine you would have too much issue with cracking or splitting. In my experience, when consistently watered, tomatoes don't really crack or split. Now if they go without water for a while and really dry out and then there's a heavy rain, welcome to splitsville!!!!!
