I've got too much invested in solvent extraction technology to go blow more money on bubblebags that still leave enough behind I'd be loathe to toss it without extracting with solvents after drying anyway.

A good bubble run recovers about 80% of actives. Diminishing returns. Unless you can get the solvents waay cheap.

We are at the same latitude as the south of France though and Halifax is about as far south as the French Riveira! So solar is an option here...

Difference is all y’all don’t have the long hours of sun that come with a Mediterranean climate.

But with panels becoming cheap, even Seattle and Wales will benefit from solar.

A good bubble run recovers about 80% of actives. Diminishing returns. Unless you can get the solvents waay cheap.

Not all that cheap but I can recover all but a tiny amount. I can put the solvent soaked pot after extraction into my 12L pot still and heat it enough to drive off the ISO or naphtha so I don't even lose that. The ISO I can fractionally distill over salt to clean that up good as new for reuse. The naphtha is easy. Have vac capability so I can cook the solvent off the oil under low temp. Got a 2L, 3-neck boiling ball so I can have constant feed of the solvent/oil mix into the ball through one port while vac is running off another port with the fractionating column up the middle.

As I don't have running water where I want to set up I use the little fountain pump in a bucket of cold water for my condenser on my glass still or the cooling tank for the SS pot still. I'm waiting for some snow to be able to keep the 5gal pail cold without having a bunch of little frozen water bottles that aren't as efficient. Got plenty of cold outside but barely any snow yet.

Regarding the cooling tank, a 5-gal pail should radiate (convect) enough heat to close that end of it.

As a desert-dweller interested in saving water, I was moved to see for myself. A low-powered aquarium pump did serve for me, and should serve generally.

Not really sure how that would work or what you mean by that. As it cools the gases it gets warmer and I need to remove part of the water and replace it with snow. When I ran 3 cans of camp stove fuel all in one batch I went thru a lot of snow keeping the temp down in a 5gal pail. Did it in my mud room where the air temp was only 5C too so not even room temp in there. I would have needed a half dozen bags of ice to get the same amount of cold material for the exchange. When we have it snow is free.

The Vevor pot still came with the water pump that I can use with my lab still too. Bit of a PITA keeping the water level up near the top without overflowing and if it's not near full the top coil isn't covered. Piss-poor design and I may just make a new coil with more than the the 3 loops in this one.





I'll be using ISO for the bulk extraction then doing a separation with naphtha to clean the oil up to remove water solubles and waxes. It's all for edibles so doesn't have to be clean enough for dabs tho it could be smoked.

Oh I see. My setup is very different. It works best at low power, 250 to 300 watts on the power meter into a heating mantle.

I use tap water to cool a Pyrex coil condenser and run the water as slow as possible into a 5-gal bucket. Takes six hours to fill the bucket. I could rig an aquarium pump to recirculate from the bucket, but haven’t bothered.

Snow is ideal for bubble. I found coarser ice to beat more green into the product.

We did not have enough snow on the ground to scrape together a snowball, finally a snow storm came by. Need to shovel some more today. Have some weed I should bubble, wonder how doing it outside will go?
