Love it. Same here....and the phone went in the same drawer. It's been 10 years. (jumped ship @55)The day I retired I took off my watch and I haven't worn one since.
Congrats fellow old person!I enrolled in Medicare this morning. Took 10 minutes. Officially a geezer now.
Now I think my short plants need some night time. Currently 24/7 for whatever reason.I have a ks5000, I found the opposite. Not much blue, so stretchy phenos shoot past the light. You can get the bar lights a lot closer, which is nice.
Lucky with 10 min, anything related here with SS, medically, just help on phone takes hours. Like they want you to give up!I enrolled in Medicare this morning. Took 10 minutes. Officially a geezer now.
We were a bit naive....and didn't start the process as early as we possibly should have. Folks with pensions/401's/plans outside of SS might wanna look into jumping on the dole early. Once you (are forced to) draw on your pension (not sure of the age..70/etc?) they knack the Hell out of your benefit if yer sitting on any $$$ at all. I get it...cus the entire system is wayyyy out of whack.... it's crazy. Anyone over 77 is riding the train for free cus that's the average age you hit the point where you draw more than you paid in...I'm seriously considering taking SS now as well. I am on my wife's employer provided health plan and she has no plans to retire. Tomorrow was a deadline though, so boom!
LOL....and a lot of folks don't realize that if you work in Gov't/quasi-Govt employment/school districts/metro districts/etc. situations you don't pay into SS at all. (that was us) Ironic AF! Yup...those ways!I spent 15 years in the federal government. I know their ways!
I started paying when I was 12 years old. My grandad enrolled me. That way he could pay taxes on the 50 cents an hour he paid me to work at the swimming pool concession stand.I paid ss my entire working life in and out of government. Everyone pays 6.2 percent, self employed pay 12.4%. Very very few exemptions.
...i meant this as: i know no one in my age group who has ever been offered a pension, outside of government employees. when i was working corporate (self-employed now), pensions were already a thing of the past.::sitting at the feet of my elders::
"what's a pension?"
~ a 47-year old
I stand corrected. My wife reminded me that her employer matched the SS that was taken out and that's her 2nd pension fund. I cashed in my small school district/metro district pensions to buy real estate about 15 years ago. I grew pot for a good while there so I didn't give the fookers anything for many years. My SS employment record was super sporadic on paper. LOL Years w/no income/pay ins.I paid ss my entire working life in and out of government. Everyone pays 6.2 percent, self employed pay 12.4%. Very very few exemptions.
A lot of folks my age (65) don't know what pensions are for the same reason. They were hourly workers/etc...and many mistakenly thought "I paid in" meant financial security at retirement. Lack of pensions/investments/etc. are a huge reason, IMO, that many folks out there think the economy sucks currently. They simply aren't connected to the losses/gains surrounding "investments" to truly know beyond the cost of daily items. They have no clue what 38000 means. It freaks me out to see how many folks my age have no savings and ARE relying on SS alone in retirement. Yikes....i meant this as: i know no one in my age group who has ever been offered a pension, outside of government employees. when i was working corporate (self-employed now), pensions were already a thing of the past.
