Restore infested root riot plugs

This will do, its just what I did successfully twice in a modernized way. The dome I forgot first attempt and dried out but this should do it.

Edit: Shoot its short lid, forgot how hard it is to find an all in one. Also needs to fit in flood tray no more than 10x10”.

So got some planter trays, might put em in 2 gal zip bags with couple holes each tray, two trays. Otherwise the high temps will dry it out. Might keep it in tray with little water.

Maybe use grocery bags to block some of the light, its bright in there.

How bad do you need these clones?

oof that sounds nice but costly. I just need tall dome and planter tray that fits rapid root plugs. I could probably find it but think I have a good setup.

I need them pretty bad. The fan idea was bad it dried out the tray in hours. I have aerocloner going at same time.

I just need to dedicate harder to keeping them moist but not soaked. It needs to fit in my setup preferably which makes domes harder to find.

I canceled the dome and got these. Trying to make it fit in veg tent between pots which is about 10”x10”. I can put them in ziplock bags with couple holes in them. Maybe lay over a grocery bag to block some light.

Got some kln. Its like 13 days no roots, does it look like its about to?
The ones with nodes look like they are (look close I think I see tiny roots) but the ones without nodes aren't and likely won't. I never get stems to root without a node. However what is the water temp? Oh and your cuts are lovely and meticulous and you show no sign of rot so just keep on!!

The clone king manual said 70-75F so I have it at 71F. I added 2 tbsp per gal kln just today. The photos are bad I dont see much going on, on any of them.

Maybe callusing may not be Im not sure. I just made another batch of root riot cuttings with kln, basically the setup Laughing Grass and one other shared. I just need heat mat if I even need that, veg tent is warm.

My next aero run I was going to try cooler temps with pool shock and kln.

I run KLN at 5cc/gallon. Seventy one is a good temp. I believe I see roots in that third pic of yours.

Day 17 some have more white dots but the cut sight looks mushy. Probably wont make it.

If I got a heat mat for the rootriot plugs what temp should I set it to in which it sits underneath tray of water? Does dome help if cuttings are perked upward without it?

About to re attempt aero with kln and pool shock. Idk what temps, what differnent things to try. Cut at the node. No heater or cranked higher. I could try RO water to rule out my tap quality.

I use a freshly alcohol cleaned blade brand new. Next time follow the tip on kln bottle to dip in solution for 15 mins first then plant.

So idk how it got infected if thats why. Why I got 90% success that one try is beyond me. They are ready to flip a month later vs 2-3.

Im actually looking at that ac infinity setup again. It can sit anywhere which didnt occur to me. Only thing is Idk how well it will wick keeping bottom of tray with puddle of water.

I tried making my own with the shown trays and ended up having to cut out the whole bottom or else you couldnt tell which plug wasnt touching the bottom good enough to wick until it dried out.

The water doesnt flow into the cells very well unless its dramatically trimmed off like shown. Any suggestions, does it sit suspended? Is it cut-able ? What temp would you set it at?

I can probably just water them daily, im interested in it. At this point root plugs were my most success. Edit I went ahead and got it.

Them bb's need some humidity, some of them are sagging badly...that or cut some of the fan leaves off so they transpire less. When I take clones they're tiny, like 3-4" total, so very little leaf matter to transpire in the first place.

If you're using the seed starter cells, maybe just fill them all the way with 50/50 peat/perlite. Either way I wouldn't leave them sitting in water. Just get them nice and wet, put a dome on them, and come back in a week to check.

Yea the dome helps keep it at the right moisture level so I can just water as needed but now with kln. Fustrating, cloning has given me the biggest ups and downs in growing.

My plan wont work if I cant get 4 clones ready every 2 months. Starting to wonder if I should grow autos in the spaces I cant get clones in. Just keep growing the same strain(s).

I just want rosin and had a nice yield last plant from fast buds. This will suck if I cant get it right soon. I think the ac infinity dome will help a lot. Root plugs are the only medium aside from aero that worked.

I like rapid root better, these root riots are super fluffy/fragile split apart easy and not grasp the cutting very well.

Ok now we’re getting to some possible causes. Cheap fish tank heater, decided go back to read reviews, its off by up to 5 degrees or more.

Put a turkey probe in the neoprene to sit like it would a cutting and its not bad but is 68-69F with heater set to 71F.

Clone king manual swears fixing temps solves the issue. These cuttings look ultra weird, cannot tell if rotting or rooting. The kln may up my odds.

They do say start with nothing and add as you go a long I never knew rooting hormone was a true product worth using. I think its rooting from the sides more vs only from the cut sight last time.

Optimistic for next run, I had brag-able results last time. Squid roots. 1 month later ready to flip.

I had it set to 68F for most the 19 days so it would of been too cold to see last times results again.

I would suggest get rid of the humidity dome on an aero cloner or bubble cloner (only use a dome for every other method of cloning)

The humidity dome will encourage bacterial growth. On an aero or bubble setup the water from the reservoir should be enough where you do not need the foliage to be inside a dome. In fact it can perform worse

The light source if too bright will delay cloning. This is very important

Using a fresh razor, clean the oil off with some alcohol and wipe dry. Use a site that hopefully has 2 nodes staggered closely above your 45 degree cut so you get 3 root locations. Sterilize the razor with a liter each cut.

Put them in the cloner being careful not to let any cut vegetation fall in. I like to change the water after one day. If using town water there is typically chloramine in it which will keep it sterile. If using well water I'd add clorox bleach to sterilize the res. I change the water every 3-4 days after the first change which is purely to get rid of contaminants.

Moving forward any wilted clones need to be removed so they don't funk the res up. Focusing on sharp cuts and clean water was a big game changer for me, ditching all additives because the real goal is to get them to suck up water from the cuts in the res, not make them grow

Temp is important and some plants just are hard to clone also. It can help to try different age clones some like to root when they are Woodier and some more fleshy, and some in between. Seeing what works well for your specific strain helps but sometimes certain ones just suck to clone.

Thanks for the tips, I will try that next run. Yea the root plug trays in veg tent were half assed, I was going to use a ac infinity dome with heat mat. Dim lighting.

The dome IMO just helps from drying out over night. Ive seen aero cloning and root plugs do fine with no dome it just risked root plugs drying out.

I will take the next root plug cuttings more serious when I get the dome and who knows I might find a rooted cutting next week from these. Some are cut like you deacribed.

Im about to toss them. I heard chlorine doesnt kill all pathogens, is this true, is peroxide better for cleaning the cloner?

It says 1 cup to 10 cups but thats not enough to run it so idk how to make 1:10 solution unless its literally adding half a bottle peroxide which is costly.

edit it says 10% bleach or peroxide, its 3 gallons and so I just calculated 10% of 3 gallons which is a lot of peroxide, but is it correct? Just making sure..
