when you come to the forum you can check the date people posted, a post from 2021 thats done and over with when you reopen it its considered "necroing" a dead thread.

why do such threads remain on the server?
they usually bring traffic in from google, or are relevant to our forum like growing logs , seedbanks etc, its how a forum works. google anything and than reddit or another forum and youll find numerous older posts posted years ago its just how it works

Gotcha. And that 16 million post count would take a severe hit as well. By the same token...I think folks digging up old threads rather than making a new one ("bump") on the exact same topic >is the way it is< as well on most forums. I've just never seen moderation focused on such posts before.
