Thermoelectric wine cooler drying and curing - DIY

The cold side is the one without the fan by the looks, if you remove the plastic housing still on it the cooling fins will be pointed toward the bottom. I put those pointed fins in the drainage groove toward the back of the cooler, fan facing forward.
Okay I thought so but my side gets super hot instead of cold. May my wires are wrong? +- IMG_5768.jpeg

Just a quick update: The bigger unit works great in fact i think its holding temps a little better then the smaller one. I did have a small problem where the condensation on the cooling unit was leaking out the back down into the tray instead of inside. just needed to tighten up the mount and it fixed that problem. did a slow 2 week drying on some GDP and it came out great. Loaded her up with some Donutz triploid and trying run number two.
I can fit about 7 oz in the unit without overcrowding. 1 oz per shelf.
I wouldn't hesitate guys its working great and it was easier to convert the access in the back is a lot more open.
Im running the ACI controller on a cycle of 4 min on and 4 min off. until the humidity is below 60% then switch to targets.

So my harvest is a few weeks out and I wanted to put the Kooler through some testing to make sure it's ready.
Then I noticed it had been cycling already, empty, rising to about 75%rh then dehumidifier would kick in and bring it down to about 70 before rising again.

I figured this was not normal if the fridge is empty and noticed it was maybe not draining correctly. So I have it tilted a little back so it drains better and have been running it to trigger at 55%rh to bring it down.

Just curious, about what should the RH be in the colder when it's just empty? Mine is in a room that's usually 70 degrees and 55%rh and inside the cooler is 55 degrees and now kinda fluctuating between 55/60rh.

My Dehumidifier is working great in the wine fridge.
The only downside is, that the combination of the wine fride with the dehumidifier in the inside creates super high energy costs. Its 50-70Wh vs. my approach with glycerol (5-8Wh).
Why is that? Because the peltier in the inside (dehumidifier) creates temperature increase which needs to be then removed by the wine fridge peltier.

With that said, It would be way better to either build the dehumidifier into the glass window OR my second thought is to buy a wine-fridge which is comming with two peltier elements (upper zone, bottom zone..) - the bottom zone peltier could be manipulated to use it as a dehumidifier. Benefit is, that just the cold plate stay inside the wine fridge and the warm side is outside. You may need to remove the inside fan (or shut it down) in order to get a cold enough temperature to the dew point.

There are several approaches that would work, the dual zone might but it wouldn’t remove much humidity unless you got rid of the fan on the cooling side, you are correct, same reason putting a heater in alone doesn’t work well. I look at it as 50w vs keeping my whole room at 55f and 60% rh which is MUCH more. 50w is no more than an older low watt light bulb, although shaving a few more bucks off the electric bill would be nice. If I could only get people here to turn off lights when they leave a room it would pay for itself, but I can’t get them to close the door when they go in and out, so I have more pressing electric concerns. Easiest way would probably be to install the dehumidifier so the heating side is outside the cooler and the cooling fins inside, than an additional small fan to circulate air while the dehumidifier is running but not directed at the cooling fins. Would take cutting a larger hole in the cooler but not that bad. Perhaps the newer bigger coolers would be even easier.

Thinking about throwing one of these together. I already have this same small dehumidifier, and a spare bluetooth Controller 69/sensor probe. I'm going to keep my eyes open for an appropriate wine cooler (still trying to determine what that is, there's a LOT to read here) during Prime Day. I'm still a little confused how I can use the Controller 69 to run the dehumidifier as needed though.

You remove the switch from the circuit. When the inkbird is triggered and sends power through the outlet, it kicks on the dehumidifier until the parameters are corrected.

Thanks @Tolerance Break, I've mostly understood that concept. My confusion is interfacing the Controller 69 to the dehumidifier, I've only ever plugged UIS things into them. I'll continue to do some reading.

@gooshpoo Care to link that new, larger unit you bought and detail using it with the Controller 69? I may just pick up a Controller 79, it may be easier to tie in, but I'm trying to use what I have.

You just use UIS control plug to control the dehumidifier im currently using 2 one for the dehum and one for the circulation fan. you can also just leave the fan on all the time. so you really only need one.

Lot of info in here to digest but I'm convinced to give this a go. Despite my fear of anything electric and wiring I'm convinced some of you are really smart and I feel like I can do it. I just successfully replaced the soap dispenser in my dishwasher and I'm feeling pretty cocky.

Definitely going with the inkbird cause I have one already and ordrerd the Pohl Schmitt but contemplating the 32 bottle fridge.

A big thank you to the folks that have done an amazing job of sharing their knowledge and time, truly.

I found a used KOOLATRON for cheap on Amazon, but I'm also contemplating the 32 bottle fridge. It reportedly holds temps fine, and 1 dehumidifier seems to be enough in it. The used KOOLATRON is so much cheaper, but I want to make sure I have the capacity I need because I only plan on building one.

Or can someone weigh in that the KOOLATRON is more than enough capacity? I only use a 2x4 space.
