I wouldn't think that there is a "best" soil to use. I think it depends on personal preference and what works best for you. I'm on my fourth type in about 2 months. Found things that wasn't working for me in most.

I found one that I liked, but was giving me magnesium problems. So now I'm mixing two different soils together to see what the results are.

I've had best results out of Miracle Grow, but others don't like it at all. (MG wasn't the one giving me the magnesium problem.)

If I may suggest, but some a few of the little bags, mark out which they are when using and compare results. Your plants will let you know which they like the best and which you have to work harder to keep the ph and nutes level.

To me, this is all a part of the fun with horticulture.

I use Sunshine Mix #1 from a local nursery mixed with 30% perlite. It has no nutes in it and has worked great for me. I buy it in 1 cubic yard bags for about $30.00.

I always had problems with tip burn with miracle grow so I do not recommend a general garden potting soil from your local hardware store. I have not used FFOF so I can't tell you there either.
What I have done is taken top soil and made my potting soil to my own recipe. I use 1 part top soil, sterile (cook in stove at 350 for an half hour) 2 parts perlite and one part perlite. I use an inch of rock, a inch or two of pure perlite, a layer of coco fibers, then my soil mix. I water using GH nutrients but you can use what ever you like. Start out with about 1/4 of what the bottle says in soil and double that each two weeks until you are up to what they recommend for soil. DOL NOT over water. Get a moisture tester for about $5 online for soil and use it to tell when your plants need a drink.
This is what I did for soil. I don't think I am forgetting anything, but I have now gone to recommend. If you have seen it in the aeroponics forum a thread about growing a pound every three weeks. This is a simple system and a lot of people are now building them.
Good Luck with your grow.

I've never had "mag" problems with Pro Mix. Some nutrient concoctions may lock it out though, I guess. I just use Wal Mart's solubles with no problems.

diddo on the fox farm. Unless you want complete control of what your plants feed on, then go with an inert soil with no nutrients and add the nutes that you want. most hydro stores carry inert mediums that are typically cocco fber and perlite based

ive used mg organic from the gate it has giving me no problems so far.. there is a truth about the made with nutrients soil... if you over water they can really burn up your plants fast. I suggest getting something with no nutes and regular base perlite and add Mary Jane specific nutrients.. its not the cheapest but youll be happy at the end when you have less problems to counter or fix... Im lucky not to have issues with over watering by sticking to my schedule and not for anyreason changing the amount that i water...

Find your favorite and stick with it experiement..try new shit its fun to see what works better than others and get that perfect combination and dank dense buds!!
