i think i m going t obuy a mirror for this adventure then.
so youre camp shaking it dry and thats it it seems, why not i can try that first of course.
i read the outcome using dry ice is quite high and its quick, so thats why i thought its a aoption, i can get dry ice easily.

Dry sift gives you a decent returns with better quality vs dry ice but by all means try both for yourself see what you prefer to smoke on most of that extra weight will be plant matter/contaminants i bet tho and its just a matter of knowing your hash its what i first smoked when i began toking it was pretty much all we got here besides the odd bit of import bud before home growing and hybrids got more popular so it will always hold a special place in my heart ig and if your gonna do it might as well do it right way i see it bud

I'd recommend going the drysift route, especially if you're used to smoking import hash, bubble hash is way too floral and the production is much more complicated than drysifting.

You can very cheap and easily make a sifting device:

- buy 2x +10L food grade plastic buckets with a good tight lid and a piece of 120 µ mesh
- cut the bottom off of one bucket
- tightly duct tape the mesh screen to the bottomless bucket
- put the meshed bucket in the other bucket
- fill up to 1/3 of the bucket with frozen weed
- put the lid on
- shake for 30-60 seconds
- take the meshed bucket out and see all the trichs collected at the bottom of the bucket
- re-freeze and repeat to make 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. sifts

Afterwards you can use other micron mesh sizes to further refine and make different qualities.

Cure in a glass jar like you would cure flower, it's not nearly as important as with flower but it makes a better product.

I usually mix my sift with 5-10% 2nd press rosin and knead for half an hour, this recipe is getting pretty popular around here

yes, mostly import hash in my life, from good to bad,, mostly bad maroc, but also often mediocre stuff, called "yellow" or pollem.
best was NL hash, skuff, made from indoor skunk flowers it seems, i think i aim for some like this.
i never liked pure rosin.

no water, seems to be clear as so many say.
i may still try the dry ice, as my freezer is quite small and i would need to buy a new one for this purpose.
i ordered a bucket bag mesh set, will see how that work, its a good start for sure, 120 is included.
some modified buckets are a good idea probably, better then the mirror to avoid the spray, will see, it should become something.

Then dry sift is the only way minus Indian charas or cream thats how every bit of import hash u will have smoked woulda been made good or bad you from the uk like me or from europe l guessing bud?

Yeah until a certain point the good imports rarely make it to Scotland as often as when i was younger but you do get the odd bit but for the most part bud took over tho vs hash its more folk of a certain age and up that be into that these days why you gotta make your own tbh

quality of import hash varies a lot from "euro plate", i wouldnt smoke, to some soft well processed pollem which i always buy when avaiable.
later is a modern form of marocan hash, it smells a bit like skunk.
probably a similar situation, the good hash is seldon.
buds are prefered here also.
i am thinking of doing hash to reduce the amount and comply laws.
its a nice adventure too an it sounds i might like the endresult.

go with bubble hash, youll never want to smoke import hash again, even better if your growing just clip all the buds into freezer bags while there still alive toss them in the freezer and do fresh frozen bubble hash. save yourself a step and not have to dry or cure flower

Hey Cobby. Never saw your thread. Since i know you well id rec looking into two approaches.

For sift: there are tumbler machines available. Ours was quite expensive but highly diyable. Its like a box with an electric engine on slow, rotating a drum where the outer walls are made of mesh. Think a slow washing machine.
Just load it, turn it on, collect after a while and separate. Then run it a bit more for 2nd quality. Rinse repeat.

For bubble hash: not tried myself tbh honest but from what i understand the nr 1 method for high quality is the piatella hash. Theres tutorials around. The basic process is:
- extract trichomes with ice from fresh harvested bud, no dry needed. Some may say use dry ice. You get your different qualities depending on mesh size of the bag. After that you have to dry it in a food grade freeze dryer. Then vacuum seal it and long slow cure in a refrigerator or wine cooler, +60 days. The results are remarkable, obvious depending original bud quality. Had some at the icmag cup in bcn. Like smoking something out of Sephora, so tasty and smelly, vape obviously.
Met some comercial guys there who actually felt it was better rentability but they got great prices and had high yielding strains: depending on how suitable your strain is for hash you can get between 3-6% yield of whatever your fresh bud weighs. One of the points they were driving hard was that it bypasses the whole drying process which takes time and climate control to get nice. And once you got the hash its so small that the cure is much easier to controll and do slow since you can easily do it in the fridge.

But id guess youd have to spend time and effort dialing it in. Cant say if its worth it or not for personal stash, but im pretty sure its worth to have a little try for someone with your skillset and inquisitive mind. The whole 3-6 % figure means you can double your yield with the right cut. Which is more than you could say about dry bud or sift, no genetic is going to take you from 500g per m to 1000.

If the icmag cup is on in Barcelona again next year maybe you could do a little field trip and come down to do some research? I should have my place back by then and be able to host you.
But its quite likely to be in Germany what with legal green so maybe ill end up heading up your way The entry as a judge was all together a very good deal, hell with all the club buds being very generous it was cheaper than anything around. Hash was a bit more expensive, tried some stuff that convinced me it would have been thuroughly worth it. Roadtrip?

Hey, I'm gonna dip my toes into the dry sifting world soon enough.

Did you ever do the dry sifting manually?
Or went straight to the tumbler?

I'll probably try manual method first, but I'm definatly interested in your experiences if you have done both.

Manual method is good, theres not much to it. Just sift a bit of trim, first over one paper/surface, for your first/00 quality, and then sift the rest over another paper. The first that comes out of every batch of trim is always the best

Tumbled or hand sifted are both are damn good imo but the tumbler is obviously more convenient.

150 micron mesh £4 for a 1x1 mtr from ebay.

I put the trim/bud into a bucket put the mesh over it then shook it over some heavy duty plastic

If your flush with cash a tumbler is ideal but it's not essential manually couldn't be described as difficult or time consuming.

That said It's nice to have a pollen tumbler.

Went and got myself a dry sifter, vibrating one. Qnubu Autosift Automatic Dry Sift Maker.
Got it on decent price (350euros), it had metal screens, which I wanted, 140micron and 70microns.

So did my first run with my last seasons trimmings and some fluffy buds.
It took several runs with the capacity, but I had quite a bit to go through, so I was pretty happy with that.
Decided to only use the 140micron screen this time, without refining it with the 70micron one.
Did like 20min+20min siftings and collected the material separately.

Absolutely loved the kief sprinkled bud bowls,
but plan was to press it with manual screw type of thingy.
Not one of the pressing we're same since I increased the pressure everytime a bit,
since I was experimenting.

All in all, very happy with tipping my toes into dry sifting world.
I'd still be very interested in some of the experiences of the more refined sifts, like if I'd use that 70micron one aswell to refine it.
Also what do you do with the "worse" part of that sift, I'd still reckon there is plenty cannabinoids left there, the smaller bulbs etc?

Try keeping the very first bit, like the first couple of minutes. The so called 00 its worth it

To clean up dry sift further you can use static electricity.

I'm happy with farmer grade sift but I wouldn't mind making a static wand for a winter project?
