Used sf4000 $200 worth it?

I Have a older family member that their financial means have dropped considerably. They are thinking of just growing indoor seasonly to save money. I told them just to change to led. They currently have 1000w hps running max in a 4x4. I found a used sf4000 on market place for $200. I was thinking of buying it for them for their birthday. I just want to know is it worth it?

imo yes, I have a sf2000 thats been great, and for that price I'd have to recommend, amazon has them $359 brand new.
but I'd go off the history I had with said person..

edit
$359 is w/ dimmable controller and evo diodes, I'm not sure if they made any older models with lower quality parts, I know this was a thing with the smaller sf models,

It really depends on what else is on offer, my guess is that you can get something even better at the same price. 400w of spider farmer does not equal a 1000w HPS and in winter times it may be even better to stick with the thouie: leds need high ambient temps to work well. Id put my money away, and maybe even add some during the winter and try to get gear come spring, 4/20 always has discounts, or when someone who had a bad winter experience sells their gear. Theres allways a few who have a hard time to adapt. And to be honest 2nd hand growgear is usually really cheap, i think waiting you can get a better deal.

Yea I figured I throw out a lower offer. They said they had 45 of them. Just trying to save them some money on electricity. What would you recommend in the price range for a 4x4. I told them it probably wouldn't be as good as the hps but would maybe save enough money to keep growing.

For someone looking for a good budget light with great spec this looks like a real treat right now with blackfriday discount and what looks like another 36$ coupon.

Problem is that the spectrum they show doesnt seem to match up with the diodes stated. Silly website which cuts off spectrum without featuring the main draw; sub 400nm UV. I very rarely rec budget lights, but this looks amazing if the diode count in the pics is true. The spectrum showed seems more like its based on 5000k rather than 4000k.

OP: if you can confirm the diode count with vivosun, or have a card which lets you just send it back if its not as specified i would look no further, get your card out and treat yourself to a better upgrade:
- Similar price per watt (youll probably wont need all the watts but youll love having them later) - and new instead of second hand.
- better spread with bars and likely better heatsinking than a board light.
- UV will change the way your buds taste and smell a great deal to the better.

@HydroKid239 that is a fantastic find imo, as long as somebody could bone out whats right: diode count or spectrum. But even if it was the spectrum snd not the diode count id still say its quite good. GREAT WORK SHARING! Very few times i diverge from my DIY or Die-stance but this looks like a real good deal.

@Absorber was this the light you won in that competition? Maybe you could comment on the spec?

After looking at hlg website, buying the parts may be the less expensive route. Getting 4 of their refurbished 288v2 boards and the 600 driver on their site. May offer the guy a $100 for a light and see if he takes it or not. Just tossing around some ideas and still looking around online.

That is another great option. But 1000 diodes versus 3000? Though with HLG theres trueblue aftersales. Id go for the the redspec boards theyre about the same price iirc. In any case you seem to be well on your way :)

What year SF4000? You can tell by the diode layout, 1st gen has the evenly spaced diodes, second gen has a more optimized layout and the Evo will say Evo on the board. If it's the 2nd gen one, I'd do it, it has a decent amount of lm301b diodes in an optimized arrangement. The ppfd map looks really good for a 450w light.

If the dude has 45 of them, maybe see what he'll take for two of them. Then run them both in the 4x4 at 75%, get even better efficiency and all the light you want.
