Things were going 'too' well lol. I needed to be humbled again. At least I see that it's not just me. I think this year they're all on steroids or crack or ,,,,,,something lol. When folks like @Star Dog and some others on here have been hassled this year by fungus gnats, then, I don't feel too bad. Lol, these little fabric pots would sit inside pantyhose... I could pin together the top and duct tape the holes I reckon. The peroxide mist is back out too.

Hey bud, yeah they're a damn nightmare so fricken annoying and persistent, I've not seen any for 3/4 days so maybe that's the end of them now?

Tbf it's easier to avoid getting pests in coco, I'm not saying they don't come in coco but not ime, with soil and composts you're inevitably going to get pest with them then without predators to keep them in check they soon multiply.

I put the pot inside the bag 2nd October and was still seen a fungus gnat last Wednesday inside the bag so that's 2 full month's before they've all hatched out?

I think they mesh bags ate a good prevention for them or pantyhose pulled over the pot and a elastic or similar around the stem?

My first two DWC grows using the q-plugs provided with my Hydrobucket kit were phenomenal. The plugs came in a sealed bag and were very moist. I think I remember reading that they should remain moist and not be allowed to dry out before use. This last time they were bone dry and I soaked them for a couple of days before putting the seeds in. They sprouted and came up quick and then stalled out. It was 10 days before I even saw the first root appear.

Tomorrow I'll start 2 more in small 1 inch rock wool plugs. When the roots appear I'll move them into 4 inch net pots with clay pellets and into a small DWC bucket and top water. I finally got the ph stable at 6.1 by adding a little cal-mag to my ro water.

I grow in hydro and start everything using Rapid Rooters. My first few grows were with rockwool and I created mayhem with a couple of sets of seeds before I switched to RR's.

For various grows, I was really careful to add just a little water. I switched gears for this last grow and soaked them with water on the belief that the RR's were designed to be idiot proof.

Yup, even though I added a lot of water, the matrix-like structure of the RR's makes sure that there's enough air in the body of the RR.

Once I get the germinated seed in the RR, it can go right in a net pot. I do have to top feed until the roots hit the water but, after that, they just take off.

I started growing autos then did four photo runs, including my current run, but will switch back to autos. When you give autos good light, they grow crazy big (4') and yield very well (>16 oz). For my current grow, I'm running a heater to keep the tent warm (it's in an unheated garage). My thinking if I'm going to burn electricity, why not use it to grow weed instead of keeping plants warm.

For convenience I tried these root pouches for cloning and starting seeds.

I wouldn't be without them now, they're available in tons of sizes £3/4 per 100 for those in the pic.

These worked really well as a preventative last grow. I have one located outside and one inside the tent. There's many different brands I believe with the same design. Sticky pad in the bottom, UV led in the top and fan in the middle.

I'm using those paint/food filters around mums atm

They're not going to protect clones and seedlings though they're more damage limitation worst case.

It's nice seeing the small fuckers on the sticky pads! They are scary thinking that two of them can multiply by 50 in a couple of days! I had been away from containers for years when I got them last run. Then I got pissed and bought hell a lot of yellow sticky pads and BTI cakes but what ended catching and killing most was these fly trappers.

They look ridiculous but works way better than I expected. I needed to change the pads after a couple of weeks with hundreds of gnats on the pads.

I worry about the gnat eggs already in a medium more than stragglers getting in anymore. I heat my soil to 250 degrees for 50 minutes to kill anything in there. This round I know that I just didn't get them completely gone from the clones roots when I transplanted them. It's taken several weeks for them to show. I moved the clones and sprayed the topsoil with peroxide solution. It worked last time. I just stopped too soon. I am watering the autos from the bottom and peroxide the top soil. I can always put sand on top with the mesh bags without suffocating the roots. I'm glad I don't have the grow size some of yall do. Ah yes,, Coco... I have been debating that for a bit. Well , I just got a check from the hospital where apparently, I overpaid $200 after the wreck. I don't even remember going let alone overpaying. Fk it anyway, I can afford Coco. I want to get the Canna brand as I hear it's already treated but I'm open to suggestions...

And room 1 seems to have some serious issue- had the lid to the res tanks fall in and it’s some sort of treated MDF and I suspect it has fucked with them. DAMN IT!

On a good note, my local biocontrol company now has predator mite sachets at a very reasonable price that I can hang throughout the garden as a preventative in the future.. I’ll never grow again without them! Just bought 2000 persimilles to contain the current outbreak. Fuck I love modern day growing!

Funny - I mucked things up using rock wool so I went to Rapid Rooters and your expiernce was the exact opposite. Great example to just to do what works.

It's been a hell of a year for the bugs.... Dude even your Fk-ups look better than most of my stuff...I hate to see you have problems, but, when I see you having to deal with issues too then I don't feel quite as dumb as I was. Sh!t happens. Even to the pros. I've been debating purchasing some nematodes to hunt out the larvae. So far, things are stabilized. Probably be another week or 2 before I know whether my remedies are working.

I’ll have to look up nematodes, never heard of them.
I did find out the other day that you can send off samples of leaf tissue from plants as young as 1 week old and get them lab tested to find out what sex they are! Gosh that will come in handy someday.. been many a time I would have happily paid to know that!

Tbh I'm a little surprised at how things are working out with the pots inside bags for that time.

They're in bags to keep gnats in/out and give me a chance to squish them...I'm actually winning!
They've grown as you'd expect.

I've used the little portable 6w type they're effective that's actually why I considered this one.

I flipped the clones to flower. I'll probably have to switch out to the big light when the autos finish. They're already alot bigger than the first round ended up. If they double I'm gonna have a full 3x3 space. This strain, at least, this pheno, is very hardy. I didn't know shit about cloning and took little care for them for weeks. Last round was barely 8 weeks till finish. I'm going to take several cuttings tomorrow. These should do better because I don't have to flip them back to veg and I hopefully have learned how to get it done. This way is slow, but all 3 made it. It's my experiment. I'm having fun learning. I need a new frigging light for Christmas. 500-600 watts would be great. I'm telling the wife that for me to be able to grow her the best possible quality herb, then, We (I), need a better light lol. Well, like my Mom says, wish in 1 hand and sh!t in the other. See which one fills fastest.

They are looking much better now. I’d be tempted to scroll those fuckers out and fill that space up nice and flat with all those little branches.. but that’s just me, I love scrogging

I've used one of these they're effective but some are poor quality, my 1st one had a proper UV bulb the 2nd had a blue/uv plastic coating on the bulb that went to shit it was poor quality i suspect thats what this one is at only £8/9.
