My experience in life has always been that you get what you pay for. You can't possibly expect to get a quality product if you're only willing to spend $20 on a light. Either shop around on places like eBay or CraigsList for an inexpensive used system, or look for monthly specials and close-outs at the hydro shops. Either way, buy the right light for what you are doing. A basic $20 HPS lamp designed for general lighting/industrial use is not the same thing as a light system designed for growing plants. Nobody likes needlessly blowing money on equipment, but you must draw the line and maintain some standards of practice if you expect decent results.

now isnt it true that the more lumens the better?
so if i get 3 of these ill have 45,000 lumens
if i get 1 250w hps then ill get 33,000 lumens
so how is the 250w growlight better

The lumen rating is only one single factor out of many that you need to consider when choosing the proper light for your room. I recommend you do a bit more research before jumping on this bargain deal.

I must express my opinion regarding these lights. I have grown with larger HID "plant growing lights", and I assure you this light provides you with everything you will need for a small grow. It will not give you the huge colas you see often, but if used properly and with the right technique, you can still get a decent harvest and they will be well worth the money. For under $40 and with a bit of imagination you can turn this "industrial" light into a perfect small operation grow light. This comes from experience. I hope this helps you a bit more. Lumens are lumens and kelvin is kelvin...PERIOD.

Those lights work, theres been a massive thread on them, search the forum for $20 HPS.

And just wanted to point out that you cant add lumens. If you have 3 lights that put out 15000 lumens, you dont get 45000lumens, you get 15000 lumens over a larger area.

Get your facts straight before giving too much advice. HPS is HPS it doesn't matter if it was made to light a parking lot or grow a plant they work and grow the same.

And for the millionth time there's nothing wrong with the $20 hps lights.

And yes lumens add period. It's a topic with it's own sticky, top of the page titled "Lumens lux and adding it all up".

They do add, but not directly, for 2 x 15000 lumen bulbs to equal 30000 the bulbs would literally need to be one inside the other. If they could both be equal distance to all parts of the plant it would be 30000...but thats not gonna happen. For the most part your going to have 15000 over most of the area, with a brighter spot around 20-25k lumens in the middle.

Yeah, the spectrum isnt quite as wide as the higher wattage HPS grow lights, but they definitely work great.
