My family is from the Pass. This is not surprising in any way, shape, or form. The people in this area of Alberta are a very easy mark considering our past relationship with the coal mining industry. My Grandfather started working the mines when he was 13 years old and it's an old ideal in the area that fits their ideology and social structure. I'm not happy with the deceptive practices that this mine and our Premier has used to forge this. But I won't blame the community.

Yes, I understand the economic boost this will give the area, but this was already deemed a no-go from environmental studies and previous votes. But, hey nothing changing a few words describing the project differently behind the scenes won't fix. I guess I won't need to buy any selenium supplements to add to my diet.

The She tRump is appealing hard to her redneck base with this one.

Open carry will be the straw that breaks this camel's back and convince the wife it's time to get the hell back to BC. So many idjits here think an AK or AR15 style rifle is what they need for home defence so once she makes it law expect apartments to get shot up from the inside.

For us living rural with livestock to protect, aka chickens, there's already a provision in the safe storage laws that allow us to keep an unloaded, ready to use firearm at hand to defend against predators or other varmints. With police response times up to an hour or more that's good to know.

Emergency rooms closing, people dying waiting for critical treatments but lets not supply vaccines and let the shooting begin to tax those neglected services even more.

Like many red states people with any brains are getting the hell out reducing the average IQ of the province and increasing the odds that these morons will get back in in '27.

From what I gather this non-committal vote wasn't even held in the area where the mining will happen. No doubt our glorious leader, Marlaina Danielle Kolodnicki, aka Daniel Smith, will use it to push approval thru tho.

I'm hoping we have some similar votes from folks living downstream of the proposed mining site and they don't get buried by the UCP.

:peace:

Don't worry, neighbours. I'm sure Trump will tell you too that he has a concept of a healthcare plan for you as well.
He's got a plan for everyone, but it involves the destruction of the institutions that help shape a democracy. Democracies dont fall overnight. It takes time. Abolish the Department of Education. And, just by seeing what he wants to do to regulatory bodies, and has already done through the extreme court, is going to destroy the agencies and departments that work to help keep citizens of your country safe. Same for intelligence. Tulsa Gabbard, a Putin apologist as head of Director of National Intelligence? Kash Patel nominated for head of the FBI?
To me, his plan continues to be implemented by his cabinet picks and his rhetoric about the Panama Canal, Greenland and Canada. All meant to shake up the world order. This might be somewhat comforting if the direction he was headed was to unite, and strengthen your country and the world. However, it seems completely obvious to me that this "shakeup" will do little to help the country and it's people, but will just pad the bank accounts and stock portfolios of the wealthiest, all the while watching the planet become hotter, more dangerous, and less inhabitable.
Democracy is one of the obstacles to oligarchs, as it concentrates power with the people, not just the rich ones. American democracy has been backsliding for decades. Democracies worldwide are being challenged by powerful interest groups. I hope it holds on.

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to Canada for lending us your water bombers. These are invaluable in aiding us fight these fires as they can be refueled from our ocean which is immediately adjacent to the fire whereas we have to land our water bombers for filling and our helicopters can not use salt water.

Thank you Canada for being there for us.
For others not familiar here's a youtube about it:
