I take the glass off the reflectors I use....and they work great

why do u take them off? just wondering? i wanted to keep mine on to isolate the heat that i was going to dispense into the attack..sux 4 me..now i dont know what to do

DONT get TEMPERED glass, IT CUTS DOWN ON LUMENS. Go to a local hardware shop like lowes or something and get another piece of glass cut that will fit the reflector. Tempered glass is more sturdy but glass is very heat tolerant anyways.

the hood is the same brand as the ballast..its says xtrasun 6 inch air coolable reflector..

My bad. Never seen that hood before. I just saw it online. It is hydrofarm gear so they should sell a prefabbed lens for it. Call hydrofarm and find the model number or just check their website

so what kind of glass should i go with? ps im trying to isolate the hate from the light and ventilate it to the attic

any glass from the hardware store will do fine. If they have several selections than i would go with a modest priced one. Any glass will isolate the heat as long as your ventilation going through the light is adequate enough to move off the heat.

i wouldnt chance it i had my friend who works for a glass company cut a piece for me then he seeen what i was usin it for and said i shouldnt chance it thats why fireplace shields are made of tempured i would think that it gets hotter being about an inch or less next to the bulb than a fire in a fireplace a foot or 2 away

for sho, i'd say 33 from the hydro dealer dont sound bad man...even though the first sucked... You could always put a fan on it anyway and use a reversible filter wherever you ventilate too, but it might not be efficient enough.
