first timer--anyone have feedback?

gypsy- i posted a series of pics back in the thread. check out the oldest thread page. there are some close ups of the leaves along with a guide as to what i am tryin to draw your attention to, i.e. the leaf discoloration.

i have taken some more pics but cant upload them from my phone. so once i am no longer snowed in, i will get some more pics up, promise

quick note about my progress...

Day 28
Three plants growing under 4 20 watt ott CFL's. 20/4 light/dark.

watering when needed, using foxfarm grow big 1/4 concentration every other watering.

So, since fimming my plants 5 days ago they have really taken off! i have what i believe are potential future kolas as new layers of growth are branching up and growing toward the light! 420 they look like your plants did in that regard a bit earlier on! Not nearly as nice or quite as developed, dont take me wrong. but good looking structure nonetheless. my biggest plant is about 8" tall at 28 days. i am satisfied given its my first grow, i have zero temp/humidity controls in place, nor any reflectivity in terms of hoods or mylar coating! I just feel like the possibilities are unlimited with some better equipment and careful, thoughtful planning. and oh yeah, a lot of good adivce, points of consideration, and bitchin resources!! ok not so quick huh lol! grow big!!

As for the "blemishes" on your plant... I don't know dude...

I have never seen a perfect plant outdoors... so I don't really expect it indoors...

Unless 1/3 or more of my plant id doing something drastic... I do nothing about it... and if it dies.. oh well it died...

I don't diagnose plants... I don't do deficiencies... or any of that crap...

My plants ALL have a fucked up leaf here or there... no biggie...

My method is ... live or die... there are more clones coming up behind you... get the fuck outta the way sick dog... the big dog is moving in....
lol...

I am glad you are having a good time...

Yup!!! You got it...!!!

Now if a person puts a little thought into it, they can save THOUSANDS of DOLLARS, by not upgrading 23.73 times.... really...

Look at this post... dude's got enough lights for stadium... well not really but you will see my point...

the 400, 600, and 1000 (no 100w)are all switchable ballasts, ...the 250 is a MH ballast ...

Do you see it now... Had "User#420" bought a 1000watt switch-able ballast, he would have saved hundreds... and no telling how much extra cash in upgrades for the vent system...

Just an example....

Plan it... you will save...

really though i appreciate your honesty. i am paranoid about my plants and i tend to be a perfectionist. thanks for the advice! new pics soon !!

Sorry mate, NOTHING will compare with appropriately spaced vegging with a 600 or a 1000 watt Metal halide...

I understand what you are saying... but I still disagree...

A HIGH INTENSITY light will penetrate WITHIN the leaf much further than LOW intensity lighting... regardless of how many you have...

They just don't pack the punch...

But as I stated before, you can do some very practical vegging with Fluorescents... but it is not better than HID, not at this time anyways...

My opinion... just that...

But regardless... it seems everyone is accomplishing what they want, and that is what counts....

so i hear two opinions from two users i have confidence in...i think mh might be better for me if it lives up to its billing because i want BIG plants. like two footers prior to flowering. but i am just not sure. maybe i will veg with cfl for now and get a hps for flowering.

i know i want to clone my plants once i send away for some good strains. if i got the mh/hps single unit, i would have a seperate area anyway so i really wouldnt want the mh/hps because i couldnt clone...

And yeah! you will save A LOT!!! by thinking about it first... every growspace is different...

You need to see everyone's set up, and adapt parts of each into what works for you...

If you have a crop to finish still, the first thing I would buy is the light... as you will be able to use it now...

If you know you are in it for a 400 HPS... just go out and get yourself a 600, and end the story... lol... or a 250, but no less, please.. lol...





Ah! I get that a lot...

I was in that hotel for over 200 nights, due to medical reasons, so I was moved in pretty good...

It was easy to convince management that I should clean my own room, to avoid anything weird... since I had waaaay over the normal amount of personal stuff in there...

So they just didn't come in at all... but everyone knew what was going on anytime I opened the door... they just turned a blind eye...

its up to you man, the first thing i had going was the 400w MH... put my seedlings under it prolly about 20 total. as they started to grow i began working on my veg room... i only had a single cfl light w/reflector on it .. for the hell of it i took out a random seedling and put it under the cfl, within a week it was clearly growing faster then my plants under the MH.
after i completed my veg room i stuck in the HPS bulb and moved smaller plants into the CFL veg room and i also started up 4 good strains, every single plant in there grew faster than everything i had seen with the MH

If you are going to clone, you will need and area for the moms, which can serve as staging area for the clones as well... and your flower room...

It's nice to have the option of switching, but you can always buy another one if you decide you want MH...

But .. I hold my opinion, based on actual use, I have never put it on paper...

I just looked at the plants...

I did not see the plants, and as I said, I am not trying to.. anything...

But if you put plants under less light, they will s t r e t c h more, looking for light...

But you could be right... they may have grown better under the CFL... but what was the temp, humidity.. etc... maybe your plants had a better environment under the cfls...

But that does not say that they are better, just that the MH set up wasn't perfect...

Sorry dude, I am not a troll... I just got an opinion...

It would be like saying that a MH is better than the sun...

The HIGHER INTENSITY light will ALWAYS penetrate further into the leaf...

Now, if because of heat issues, the MH was really far away.. (light looses 75% intensity per foot traveled) than yeah, you had more light with the CFLs almost touching...

A 600 or a 1000 MH inside of a cooltube, 6 to 8 inches from the plants will give you better vegg. than 600 watts of cfls... not to talk about the wires and heat from ALL those CFLs...

OK... enough about the HID vs FL... remember I vegg with T-5 Fluoros... I am not against them, but I am growing 12" lollipops... and I only vegg to root...

i just noticed it for the first time when i turned the lights back on! there are three of them so far. not all bunched together though. there is a symetrical pair on either side of the 5th node and then on the other growth point on the same node there is one!

i know its too early to tell but i hope they are female!

Ok, so lots of exciting stuff goin on in my world! Today is my plants' one month birthday, so I bought them a cake (Nitrogen)

I have posted a bunch of pics! Just pay attention to the title of the .jpg, it gives an explaination of what the pic is. If anyone has questions, let me know...

I have finished construction of the new grow chamber! Check it out. Any questions, let me know! Comments? Much appreciated!

I also posted some pics of some new protection! .44 mag Ruger! It's a man-killer! Hollow-pointed for those less than friendly house callers...

I have posted pics of each of my three plants from various angles. Any and all feedback appreciated! Rep+ for those with good advice/tips!

Notice I posted a couple real nice angled pics of the preflowers. I am seeing no stem at the bottom of the little preflower, so I am praying female, but its too early for me to have any confidence given my level of knowledge....any guess appreciated! If you aren't sure just make sure and let me know it's a guess...If you have confidence, fine too!

and ull know when u see like 2 white string like hairs come out the top of the corner shoots and other places if u see sacks growing without white string things coming out in a couple days of the sacks growing then they could be males
